Abstract: A spark plug includes a ceramic insulator having an engagement portion, and a metallic shell provided around the ceramic insulator and having a protrusion. The protrusion has a diameter-decreasing portion, which seats on the engagement portion via an annular seat packing. On a cross section including an axial line, θs>θp is satisfied, where θp represents an acute angle (°) between a straight line orthogonal to the axial line and the contour of the engagement portion, and θs represents an acute angle (°) between a straight line orthogonal to the axial line and the contour of the diameter-decreasing portion. In the aforementioned cross section, Hvo>Hvi is satisfied, where Hvo represents the Vickers hardness (Hv) of the seat packing at the midpoint of a first line segment, and Hvi represents the Vickers hardness (Hv) of the seat packing at the midpoint of a second line segment.

Abstract: A spark plug includes a ground electrode and a center electrode, at least one of which includes an electrode body, an electrode tip, and a weld part formed therebetween. The weld part has an orthogonal projection on a virtual plane perpendicular to a layering direction of the electrode body and the electrode tip. The orthogonal projection includes projecting portions extending in a specific direction. The weld part satisfies a condition that a first line segment is shorter than a second line segment, wherein: the first line segment is a virtual line segment connecting peaks of adjacent two projecting portions; and the second line segment is a virtual line segment that is perpendicular to the first line segment and connects the first line segment to an outer periphery of the weld part at a point farthest from the first line segment.

Abstract: A packing is arranged between an outer-diameter-contracted portion of an insulator and an inner-diameter-contracted portion of a metal shell. In a contact portion of the packing and the insulator, a position at a most front end side is set as a first position. In a surface of a nose portion disposed at a front end side of the outer-diameter-contracted portion of the insulator, a position where a length from a front end of the insulator parallel to an axial line direction is 1 mm is set as a second position. A length between the first position and the second position parallel to the axial line direction is set as a first length. Abstract: Disclosed is a spark plug capable of preventing electrode wear while ensuring impact resistance. In the spark plug, a conductive seal is arranged between a rear end portion of a center electrode and a resistor within an axial hole of an insulator. The conductive seal includes a side-surface seal layer brought into contact with the whole of a side surface of the rear end portion of the center electrode and having a thickness of 10 μm or larger in an axis perpendicular direction. Assuming that a projection area is defined by projecting the center electrode onto the axial hole in the axis perpendicular direction around a center axis of the spark plug, a contact surface of the resistor brought into contact with the axial hole overlaps at last a part of the projection area.
