    Abstract: A decelerating apparatus includes a brake member, primary and secondary permanent magnets and pole pieces. The primary permanent magnets are arranged in a circumferential direction to face an inner or outer peripheral surface of the brake member with a gap in between. Each of the primary permanent magnets has two opposite magnetic poles arranged in a radial direction. The secondary permanent magnets and the pole pieces are placed in the gap and arranged in the circumferential direction. Each of the secondary permanent magnets has two opposite magnetic poles arranged in the circumferential direction. Each of the pole pieces is positioned between adjacent secondary permanent magnets. Magnetic pole arrangements of adjacent primary permanent magnets are opposite to each other. Magnetic pole arrangements of adjacent secondary permanent magnets are opposite to each other. Each of the secondary permanent magnets has a trapezoidal cross-sectional shape including an upper base and a lower base.

    Abstract: An eddy current deceleration device includes a rotor and a stator. The rotor includes a hub, a rotor body, and a spoke. The spoke has neutral axes. The first neutral axis is a neutral axis when the spoke is bent in a circumferential direction of the rotor body. The first neutral axis is positioned forward in a rotating direction of the rotor with respect to a center line of the spoke in the circumferential direction. The second neutral axis is a neutral axis when the spoke is bent in an axial direction of the rotor body. The second neutral axis is positioned on a rotor body side with respect to a center line of the spoke in the axial direction.

    Abstract: An eddy current damper includes a magnet holding member, a first permanent magnet having a thickness (H1), a second permanent magnet having a thickness (H1), a conductive member, a ball nut, a screw shaft, and a copper layer having a thickness (H2). The second permanent magnet is adjacent to the first permanent magnets with a gap therebetween in the circumferential direction of the magnet holding member. The ball nut is fixed to the magnet holding member or the conductive member. The copper layer is fixed to the conductive member and is opposed to the first permanent magnet and the second permanent magnet with a gap therebetween. The thickness (H1) and the thickness (H2) satisfy, with respect to a distance (R1) between a central axis of the screw shaft and the center of gravity of the first permanent magnet: 0.018≤H1/R1≤0.060, and 0.0013≤H2/R1≤0.0065.

    Abstract: A retarder includes a rotor, a plurality of fins, a plurality of permanent magnets, a switching mechanism, a first cover, a second cover, and a cover-switching mechanism. The fins are provided on an outer peripheral surface of the rotor and inclined with respect to a rotation direction of the rotor. The magnets are arranged inside the rotor. The first cover faces an end face of the rotor and includes a plurality of holes. The second cover protrudes from an outer circumferential edge of the first cover toward a rotor side. The cover-switching mechanism opens the holes in the braking state and closes the holes in the non-braking state. The first cover is disposed on a side on which a leading end portion of each fin is present. The retarder achieves suppressing windage and ensuring a heat dissipation performance.
