摘要: A system and method allows an email user to solicit an email thread from another user (or from a server) in situations where the first requesting user may have been added to an email thread after the email thread was started, or in situations where the user may have an incomplete thread (for example, where a user is being added to a thread where an attachment was removed). The complete thread is returned to the first requesting user, after permission has been sought and granted, and after data mining and intelligent aggregation of a plurality of relevant threads in to one interleaved result is performed and returned to the first requesting user.

摘要: A system for adding new recipients to an e-mail thread. The system includes a server device configured to administer an electronic mail (E-MAIL) application. At least one client device being operably associated via a network with the server device. The at least one client device configured to add new E-MAIL recipients to the E-MAIL thread of the distributed E-MAIL message via a user interface (UI) having a menu selection for adding recipients to the thread. The UI being operably associated with the client device and the server device. The client device is further configured to add the identity of the new E-MAIL recipient to a persistent store table located on the client device.

摘要: A method and system for preventing recipients from being added and/or removed from a message thread in an e-mail and/or calendaring application. Recipients of a thread message may be allowed to seek and obtain permission from a thread originator to insert a recipient to and/or remove a recipient from the thread. The originating user of a message thread can prevent insertion and/or removal of recipients in an e-mail message thread and/or a calendaring system invitation message by selecting from corresponding message composition user interface options. A mechanism persistently registers the recipient removal and/or insertion settings provided by the originating user, for example as settings stored in and conveyed with the messages themselves. The originating user can permit non-originating users to insert and/or remove recipients from the thread. The originating user can select an option in the message composition user interface that requires and/or allows non-originating users to request permission to insert and/or remove a recipient to a thread. The permission request is forwarded to the originating user, who can then accept or reject the request. The originating user can also expressly list or otherwise indicate which user(s) cannot be inserted into the message thread, and/or which recipients cannot be removed from the message thread.

摘要: Linked non-shared documents within email messages are made accessible to a recipient. Upon initiation of sending of an email message by a user, the MIME of the email is automatically parsed through to detect URL tags indicating that a linked document is contained within the email message. Upon detection of a URL tag, the prefix of the URL is checked to determine if it is accessible to a recipient. If the prefix indicates that the link is not accessible to the recipient, the sender is provided with at least the following options for making the linked document accessible to the recipient: sending the linked document as an in-line document by converting the document into HTML format and embedding it into a multi part MIME message, sending the linked document as an attachment with a link to a file system or document library, or converting the linked document into a pdf file and sending it as an attachment. If the prefix is set, by default, as one that is not accessible to the recipient, the option of converting the document into HTML format and embedding it into a multi part MIME message may be automatically selected.

摘要: A system for minimizing the time required to initiate and terminate an instant messaging session. An initial message in an instant messaging session is checked to determine whether it has any significant content. If the received initial message has insignificant content, then a non-intrusive notification is provided to the user, without changing the current focus in the user interface. A pre-composed response message may also be automatically transmitted to the initiating user, requesting that a more significant message be sent. When an initial message in an instant messaging session is received that is determined to have significant content, the user is promptly notified in a different manner, which may be intrusive such that the current focus of the user interface is changed to a new window or the like containing the newly initiated instant messaging session. Detection of instant messaging session termination by the local user triggers a period of special processing of received instant messages from other participants in the terminated instant messaging session. Instant messages received from other participants in the terminated session during this time period that are insignificant farewell messages are processed without disturbing the local user.

摘要: A system for making the contents of the “Subject:” field of a response email message more meaningful and more useful within a conversation thread of email messages by providing an abstract of the response message within the “Subject:” field. Before a response message is sent, the system automatically generates at least one new subject line that it proposes to the user for use in the “Subject:” field of the response message. The system generates a user interface display of a number of proposed subject lines, and also provides the user with the options of accepting, modifying, or declining the proposed subjects lines. The displayed contents of a “Subject:” field for the response message contains the currently selected one of the proposed subject lines. A predetermined one of the proposed subject lines may be provided as an initial default value of the “Subject:” field. The system generates the proposed subject lines using auto-summarization techniques, which are performed using various text analysis and information retrieval techniques based on attributes of the response message.

摘要: A system for providing a gathered threads view of email messages that effectively indicates the presence of messages from important persons and/or from new participants in the thread. When a message in a thread is received, the sender of the message is compared to a list of important persons for the receiving user. If the message is from a person that is important to the receiving user, then an indication of that message is presented in the user interface with a higher display precedence than indications of messages in the thread from users that are not important. The sender of a received message in a thread may also be compared with the senders of previous messages in the thread and the recipients of the first message in the thread. If the sender of the received message is a person that has not previously been a sender of a previous message in the thread, then that message is considered to be from a new participant in the thread, and an indication of the received message is presented in the user interface with a higher display precedence than indications of messages in the thread sent from persons that had previously been senders. The system may display indications of all messages in a thread received from important persons are displayed at a higher precedence than indications of messages from new thread participants, which are in turn displayed at a higher precedence than indications of all other messages in the thread.
