摘要: A data network in which at least one switch is provided with the facility for estimating current network demands using a polygonal approximation to scaled cumulant generating function. The approximation is iteratively refined in accordance with sampled data passing through the switch. The switch estimates the demand associated with a new data processing request as it is received by the switch and decides whether to accept the request based on available resources.

摘要: A method of monitoring events in network traffic is described herein, in accordance with various embodiments. The method may provide for the reduction in the number of network traffic samples that need to be analysed in order to determine performance criteria for the traffic in the network. By selecting specific samples as representative of the requirements of all the traffic, it may be possible to more efficiently and quickly provide an analysis of the activity of the network.

The method may utilises an estimation of a concave hull function of the arrived traffic within the buffer. The use of such a concave hull representation may allows for more efficient data processing and for a direct measurement of desired service rates for differing predetermined control parameters.

摘要: A network analysis tool is provided. The tool is configured to enable the analysis of traffic on the network so as to provide for scheduler hierarchies. By analysing the traffic using techniques based on large deviation theory the present invention provides for the analysis of traffic on multiple inputs to a scheduler based on the traffic class and a parameter defining how traffic on that specific input should be treated.
