Abstract: An observation device includes: an illumination optical system that irradiates illumination light onto a sample, an objective optical system that has a phase modulation region and a light blocking region and that acquires an image of the illumination light transmitted through the sample, and an autofocus mechanism. The objective optical system selectively outputs the illumination light from a first output region disposed at a position where the illumination light is to be projected onto the phase modulation region and a second output region disposed at a position where a portion of the illumination light is to be projected onto the light blocking region. The autofocus mechanism causes the objective optical system to acquire an image of the illumination light while causing the illumination light to be output from the second output region, and detects the focus position of the objective optical system based on the contrast of the acquired image.

Abstract: An observation device, comprising an image sensor that forms an image of a specimen, and a processor having a focus control section and an analyzer, wherein the focus control section, in a case where image data for analysis of the specimen by the analyzer is obtained when a plurality of maximum values have been generated for change in contrast evaluation value corresponding to change in the focus position, controls focus position any focus position that corresponds to the plurality of maximum values, and the image sensor outputs image data that has been imaged.

Abstract: A focus detection apparatus generates a focus evaluation value based on image data corresponding to a predetermined focus detection area. The focus detection apparatus includes a filter circuit, a reset circuit, a multiplication circuit, a coefficient generating circuit, and an integration circuit. The filter circuit filters image data to be input. The reset circuit generates a reset signal to reset the filter circuit. The multiplication circuit multiplies the image data by a predetermined coefficient and supplies the filter circuit with the image data multiplied by the coefficient as image data to be filtered after the reset circuit generates the reset signal. The coefficient generating circuit generates the coefficient. The integration circuit generates the focus evaluation value within the focus detection area based on an output of the filter circuit.
