Abstract: A system for detecting a presence of a person in a hoistway, having: one or more controllers configured to authenticate the person in the hoistway; the one or more controllers being operationally connected to an elevator car in the hoistway and configured to determine whether the person is within a predetermined distance of the elevator car from a signal emitter on the person; wherein when the person is within the predetermined distance of the elevator car, the one or more controllers is configured to transmit a feedback request to the person and stop the elevator car unless the one or more controllers receives feedback to the feedback request within a predetermined period of time.

Abstract: Elevator systems and methods are provided. The systems include a traveling component movable along a guide rail within an elevator shaft, an elevator machine operably connected to the traveling component and including a machine brake, and an overspeed safety system. The overspeed safety system includes a safety brake and an electromechanical actuator, the brake engageable with the guide rail. A safety system controller operably connects to the electromechanical actuator and triggers the electromechanical actuator due to at least a detected triggering event. A temporary power supply is operably connected to the overspeed safety system to provide power in the event of a power failure.

Abstract: An safety system (40) including: a plurality of landing door sensors (26), each landing door sensor (26) being configured to provide a warning signal (52) when a respective landing door (22) is open; at least one position sensor (14) configured to determine a current position (54) of an elevator car (10) moving within a hoistway (2); an elevator brake (7) configured to halt the motion of the elevator car (10); and a controller (8) configured to send an emergency stop signal (58) to the elevator brake (7). The controller (8) is configured to determine whether to send the emergency stop signal (58) based on: a direction of travel of the elevator car (10) with respect to the open landing door (22); a current speed of the elevator car (10); and a distance (D) between the open landing door (22) and the current position of the elevator car (10).
