Abstract:
The rotogravure printing system comprising a machine provided with at least one shaft (6) and means for movement and for rotation of said shaft (6) and a rotogravure cylinder sleeve (10) to be rotated by means of the at least one shaft (6), further comprising a first substantially annular end plate (7) which is in use connected to the shaft (6) of the system, which end plate (7) is provided with at least one contact surface (23) that is designed for contact with a mating contact surface (13) defined at an inner side (12) of the cylinder sleeve (10).
Abstract:
The rotogravure cylinder comprising a rotary gravure base and thereon a copper engraving layer contains a zinc layer between a gravure base and a layer package suitable for engraving and printing. This layer package for instance can comprise a metallic support layer, a copper engraving layer and suitably a protection layer. Deposition of the zinc layer may be tuned for thickness variation, in combination with deposition of the layer package in a fixed thickness.
Abstract:
The present invention describes a method for manufacturing rotogravure cylinders with a cylinder base made of aluminum and a single metallic layer on the cylinder surface. The method comprises the construction of the cylinder base, the deposition of the metallic layer on the cylinder surface, the thinning of the cylinder to achieve the required dimensions, the polishing of the cylinder surface and finally the etching of the cylinder with the desired printing pattern. The metallic layer can be any copper alloy that will produce a surface with a Vickers hardness of about 400 HV. The metallic layer is deposited onto the cylinder base using any thermal spraying method. The cylinder surface is then thinned and polished by using any conventional method. Finally, the cylinder is etched to provide a superb cylinder for the printing industry.
