Abstract: A method of sealing articles having metal and glass sealing surfaces in a vacuum-tight manner. The joint is established by heating the surfaces under pressure until welding occurs at temperatures which are lower than the softening point of the glass and which lie between the temperature at which the vapor tension of the metal is equal to 10 10 Torr and the temperature which is the melting point of the metal.
