Abstract: A method and apparatus for separating unwanted particulate material from a flowable material, such as hot thermoplastic polymer, wherein a stream of the flowable material with the particulate material entrained therein is fed to a body containing a filter element so that they pass in operative contact with the filter element with a velocity sufficient to maintain the particulate material entrained in the reduced flow as the filtered material passes from the stream through the filter element. As applied to a continuous polymer extrusion machine the method and apparatus permits continuous operation of the machine with highly contaminated polymer material.
