Abstract: A method of increasing the smoke filtering activity of porous glass which involves the incorporation of hydroxyl ions in high concentrations in the pores of the microporous glass article. The microporous glass is heated at a temperature in the order of 100* to 600*C for about 5 to 120 minutes in an atmosphere of water and an inert gas.
