摘要: Phenolic aldehyde resins used in adhesive coatings for binding substrates to rubber are modified to provide better adhesion and to decrease the problem of blowholes on the substrate coated with the adhesive coating. The resin is modified by incorporating into the resin a compound selected from the group consisting of urea, thiourea, thionamide having one to six carbon atoms or mixture thereof. In the method of preparing the modified phenolic aldehyde resin about 1 to about 10 weight percent based on the resin is added to the aqueous solution either simultaneously with or sequentially after the addition of the phenolic compound and aldehyde. The modified phenolic resin is then combined with an elastomeric latex or latices to produce the improved adhesive coating.

摘要: Flat glass is inspected for point type defects by passing a band of partially collimated light, whose rays lie in planes that are essentially normal to the surface of the glass and parallel to longitudinally extending drawline defects, through the glass at an acute angle with respect to the surface of the glass. Images cast on a viewing screen by distortion associated with point type defects are thereby selectively enhanced to permit rapid and accurate human inspection of glass for mirror quality.

摘要: Disclosed is a method for purifying hydrogen chloride containing organic impurities. The method involves contacting the impure hydrogen chloride with chlorine, preferably at an elevated temperature. The organic impurities are thereby chlorinated to higher molecular weight organic compounds which are readily removed from the hydrogen chloride.

摘要: Disclosed is a method of preventing erosion of glass furnace basin walls. A plurality of pipes are submerged in molten glass adjacent the basin wall and spaced therefrom. Submerging the pipes prevents chemical deterioration of the pipes. A cooling medium, e.g. water, is moved through each of the pipes to extract about 24,500 BTUs per linear foot of pipe to cool the glass in contact with the pipes. The cooling pipes prevent erosion of the glass furnace basin walls by (1) cooling the glass to form a protective layer of devitrified glass and molten glass of high viscosity about the pipes which maintains the molten glass in spaced relation to the basin walls and (2) lowering the temperature of the glass-refractory interface located below and beyond the area of the protective layer.

摘要: An apparatus for treating automotive exhaust gases is described involving the utilization of an inertia type centrifugal separator and a fiber glass filter in series. The inertia separator is housed with the filter in a unitary housing in one embodiment and in a second embodiment is shown housed separate from the filter. The filter employed involves pleated fiber glass mat having a high temperature binder on the fiber glass used to insure its stability at the gas temperatures encountered.

摘要: An apparatus for reciprocating a movable device comprises a continuous traveling track having an extended member or pin engaging a horizontal slot in the carriage of the movable device. At the terminal position of each reciprocation stroke, a shock absorber is positioned. The shock absorber provides the decelerating force or the decelerating and accelerating forces associated with the direction reversal of the movable device. Preferably, the movable device is a glass fiber attenuator.

摘要: A novel diaphragm cell (electrolyzer) useful for electrolyzing brines to produce chlorine and sodium hydroxide is disclosed which is constructed of a plurality of single cells. Such single cells are made up from bipolar electrodes which have a plurality of finger-like, dimensionally stable anodes extending in one direction outwardly from a support wall and a plurality of finger-like cathodes extending in the opposite direction from the support wall. In its assembled state, the electrolyzer is made up of one or more single cells in which cathodes of one bipolar electrode are interleaved between anodes of the adjacent bipolar electrode to form a single cell. An especially effective bipolar electrode has hollow anodes having spaced pairs of anode surfaces. In a preferred embodiment the support wall (or backplate) has a titanium surface on its anode side and an iron surface on its catholyte side.

摘要: In stacking sheet material, e.g. glass sheets, successive individual sheets are transferred by conveying facilities from a first position toward a release point along the conveyor path. A sheet is released from the conveying facilities at the release point and moves along a trajectory path toward a lead edge stop device positioned at the stacking station. As the leading edge of the sheet engages the stop device, flares at the leading edge of the glass break away as glass chips and are projected over the uppermost surface of the sheet.
