The spacing member comprises a substantially sleeve-shaped spacing element to be fitted on the securing element and a separate spacing screw. The spacing screw has an elongate, unthreaded middle portion and a threaded portion at its tip for engaging with an internally threaded bore in an upper part of the securing element. The sleeve-shaped spacing element includes a passage extending longitudinally therethrough for receiving the spacing screw. The passage has an internally threaded portion for engaging with the spacing screw, so that the spacing screw, after it has been threaded through the threaded portion, is joined together with the spacing element, and a recess in an upper part of the passage. The recess has a non-circular geometry for facilitating application of a counter-holding instrument in order to prevent the tightening force from being transmitted down into the securing element when the sleeve-shaped spacing element is fitted on the securing element.

The spacer element, which is a unitary member, has a first portion with an end surface thereof permitting abutting engagement with the protruding end of the implanted fixture. The first portion also has a through bore aligned with the threaded aperture in the fixture and defining an internal ledge to enable a screw to pass through the bore, abut the ledge and threadably engage the threaded aperture in the fixture. The first portion is adapted for locking the spacer element in a selectable one of a plurality of rotational, fixed positions in relation to the protruding portion of the fixture. The unitary spacer element also includes a second portion for supporting the dental prosthesis on the spacer element, the second portion forming an acute angle with respect to the through bore of the first portion.

The spacer screw (5) is provided with an unthreaded waist (25) whose length exceeds the thread diameter of the spacer screw, and has a screw head (20) of comparatively slight diameter and with a planar or gently conical shoulder which cooperates with a corresponding annular shoulder (19) in the tubular spacer (4). The apparatus is mounted in place by means of a double screwdriver whose one part fits the internal counter-abutment in the spacer sleeve (4) and whose other part is caused to engage with the driver slot (24) of the screw head. In the mounting operation, equal, but counter-directed torques are applied to both parts of the screwdriver so that the implant will remain unloaded during the mounting operation proper.

An impression coping is provided for taking an impression of an implant installed in a patient's mouth. The impression coping comprises an engagement portion, a cover and an impression portion. The engagement portion is adapted to be inserted within an internal cavity of the implant. The engagement portion has a plurality of axially extending protrusions positioned around the periphery for engaging corresponding channels within the internal cavity of the implant. The engagement shaft is thus configured to register the internal orientation of the implant within a patient's jaw. The impression portion of the coping includes one or more embedment features adapted to be embedded in a dental impression material for taking a dental impression thereof.
