摘要: An improved ink jet printhead comprising upper and lower substrates that are mated and bonded together with a thick film insulative layer sandwiched therebetween. One surface of the upper substrate has etched therein one or more grooves and a recess which when mated with the lower substrate will serve as capillary filled ink channels and ink supply manifold, respectively. The grooves are open at one end and closed at the other. The open ends serve as nozzles. The manifold recess is adjacent the grooved closed ends. Each channel has a heating element located upstream of the nozzle. The heating elements are selectively addressable by input signals representing digitized data signals to produce ink vapor bubbles. The growth and collapse of the bubbles expel ink droplets from the nozzles and propel them to a recording medium. A recess patterned in the thick layer provides a flow path for the ink from the manifold to the channels by enabling the ink to flow around the closed ends of the channels and increase the flow area to the heating elements. Thus, the heating elements lie at the distal end of the recesses so that a vertical wall of elongated recess prevents air ingestion while it increases the ink channel flow area and increases refill time, resulting in an increase in bubble generation rate.

摘要: A liquid ink printing apparatus printing images includes a printhead having a plurality of nozzles wherein a single power pulse causes two or more nozzles to eject ink simultaneously. The printhead includes an ink directing element having a plurality of ink conduits coupled to an array of spaced nozzles and a transducer element aligned with and mated to the ink directing element. The transducers are spaced a distance apart and each transducer is substantially aligned with at least two or more of the nozzles. The printhead is stepped in a direction transverse to the array of spaced nozzles a stepping distance approximately equal to or less than the distance between transducers. The ink directing element includes a silicon wafer having etched ink conduits or channels holding ink for ejection through the nozzles connected thereto. Each transducer is cooperatively associated with one channel having a fork member coupled to two or more nozzles or is cooperatively associated with two or more channels wherein each channel is connected to one or more nozzles.

摘要: A fluid ejector includes a drop size symbol that is based on the fluid ejector's drop size relative to one or more fixed drop sizes. The drop size symbol is formed by comparing the fluid ejector's drop size to the one or more fixed drop sizes. An image forming device includes a marking fluid ejector that includes a drop size symbol based on the marking fluid ejector's drop size relative to one or more fixed drop sizes. The image forming device forms an image based on the drop size symbol by determining the drop size symbol and then either selecting a marking fluid look-up table based on the drop size symbol, or forming an image correction factor based on the drop size symbol.

摘要: A color ink jet printing device capable of substantially reduced intercolor bleeding includes an ink jet printer having at least one printhead and at least three separate ink supplies in communication with the printhead. A first ink supply contains a slow drying black ink. A second ink supply contains a fast drying black ink. A third ink supply contains a fast drying non-black color ink. Prior to printing, black image potions are determined. The black portions are printed using a pixel priming process, a border substitution process or a combination thereof to reduce intercolor bleed. The pixel priming process first prints a quartertone or halftone pattern using fast drying black ink, followed by subsequent whole tone printing superposed on the primed black image area using a slow drying black ink. The border substitution process analyzes a neighboring matrix of pixels surrounding each black pixel, preferably at least a 5.times.5 matrix, to determine if color pixels other than black are present. If so, that black pixel is printed using the fast drying black ink to reduce intercolor bleed. Otherwise, the black pixel is printed using slow drying black ink. This printing may be further improved by checkerboarding the black image portions. This involves printing a partial tone checkerboard pattern in a first pass and printing a complementary checkerboard pattern on a second pass to provide a whole tone of the image portions.

摘要: An ink jet method and apparatus including circuitry for controlling lateral deflection of an ink column before drops are formed. A deflection mechanism used to deflect the column comprises two electrode portions spaced on opposed sides of the column. By control of the voltages applied to the electrode portions the angle of ink column deflection is made proportional to a control voltage applied to the portions. This proportionality facilitates control over column scanning to insure proper ink drop placement on the ink jet recording medium.

摘要: An intelligent printer driver is provided. The printer driver includes a printer detector which detects characteristics of a printer to be used to generate a document unless the driver is specific to a known printer. A document detector detects content of the document to be printed. A matching module compares the characteristics of the printer and the content of the document and determines whether the printer and content of the document are mismatched. A notification module notifies a user if the printer and the document are mismatched and a recommendation module generates recommendations to the user as to modifications of the document which are determined to be mismatched by the printer. The user may then select a preview document shown on the monitor, may request further modifications to the document, may print the document without any modifications, or may abort the print process.

摘要: The present invention provides a method for processing color image data for printing on an inkjet printer to reduce intercolor bleeding in an image recorded on a receiving medium. The method receives a target pixel comprising multiple separation pixels, wherein each separation is associated with a separate color plane and has at least three states, a first state corresponding to depositing no ink drops, a second state corresponding to depositing one ink drop, and a third state corresponding to depositing more than one ink drop. The method further includes determining if the target pixel is within a black border region near a black/color interface or within a color border region near a black/color interface. If the target pixel is within a black border region, the method replaces the target pixel with a black border output pixel derived from a black pixel modification pattern identifying an arrangement of separation pixels to deposit approximately one drop for each pixel location in the black pixel modification pattern. Similarly, if the target pixel is within a color border region near a black/color interface, the method replaces the target pixel with a color border pixel derived from a color pixel modification pattern identifying an arrangement of separation pixels for each non-black color plane that deposits approximately one drop for each pixel location.

摘要: A wide array ink jet printhead for use in an ink jet printing device and being capable of propelling ink to create a line on a recording medium in the device. The printhead includes a plurality of adjacent and generally linear printheads each having a first and second end ink jet. A plurality of electrodes are in communication with the ink jets. A microprocessor controls the electrodes to selectively provide a current signal representing digitalized data to the electrodes. When the digitalized signal is intended to create a line on the recording medium more than one printhead wide, the ink jets on adjacent printheads forming the line are initialized from a first end ink jet to a second end ink jet on a first printhead and in a reverse order from a second end ink jet to a first end ink jet on the adjacent printhead, the sequences commencing substantially simultaneously on each printhead.
