摘要:
The present invention relates to a sensing system which is capable of discriminating types of causes of changing loads on a surface, such as the type of motion of a human subject. The system has wide ranging applications including sports performance (e.g. golf club swing analysis). The system comprises a deformable load bearing surface (2), a plurality of mutually spaced sensors (6), a processor (8) and an output (10). The sensors (6) are coupled through the deformation response of the surface (2) to an applied load (4) to receive local sensory data from the surface (2). The processor (8) is operatively coupled to the sensors (6) and is arranged to transform the sensory data into information data relating to a load (4) applied to the surface (2), e.g. by means of a neural network algorithm. In an alternative embodiment, a housing including the deformable load bearing surface (2) contains a flowable material (e.g. liquid) which flows in response to the deformation of the surface.

There is described a system for testing a sample. The system comprises a microplate, at least one actuator, a plurality of mutually spaced sensors, and a processor. The microplate has a test portion including an interactive substance. The interactive substance is inherently interactive with a specified test substance. The microplate is arranged such that at least the test portion of the microplate may be brought into contact with the sample. The at least one actuator is operable to vibrate the microplate. The plurality of mutually spaced sensors are coupled to the microplate. Each sensor is operable to provide a respective sensory data time series during vibration of the microplate. The microplate and the sensors are arranged such that the provided sensory data time series are not independent from one another. The processor is operable to receive the sensory data time series from the sensors and to process the received sensory data time series so as to provide information about the test substance in the sample based on the sensed interaction between the test substance and the interactive substance on the test portion of the microplate. A corresponding method of testing a sample is also described.

There is a distributive sensing technology that can discriminate between the causes of dynamic disturbances. The system applies sensing elements within a sensing medium, and the medium couples the dynamic disturbance and the sensors. By interpreting the responses of the medium, the nature of the disturbance can be discriminated in a way as to determine a description, class or category. There is a method of categorizing the dynamic body behavior, the method comprising: providing a sensing medium during at least a period of the dynamic behavior of the body; providing a plurality of sensors coupled to the sensing medium; obtaining a sensory data time series from each sensor, the sensing medium and the sensors being arranged such that the obtained sensory data time series are not independent from one another; specifying a dynamic behavior category; and processing the sensory data time series. Apparatus for performing the method is also described.
