Various pathophysiological states are determined by evaluating the rate of 17O-containing water production oxygen using proton MRI. The method can be used to identify viable but threatened myocardium, injured by viable muscle, penumbra tissue in a stroke patient, and the like.

Provided are compositions containing an emulsion containing a perfluorinated compound, as well as methods for preparation of the compositions. Also provided are formulations containing a complex of oxygen-17 and the emulsion compositions. Additionally provided are methods for the preparation of the formulations as well as kits containing the formulations. Further provided are methods of use of the formulations in imaging of tissues using a magnetic resonance imaging system.
摘要:
The combination comprises a prosthetic vessel graft having a limited wall opening and a catheter device having at least two interconnected tubular arms extending through the wall opening and through the interior of the graft and through opposite ends of the graft. The end of each arm includes an inflatable balloon collar for secure connection to the interior of a vessel to be repaired by inflation of the balloon collar. In the method, the ends of the catheter arms are inserted and secured through small incisions in a vessel on either side of a section to be replaced by the graft. The section is removed, the graft is attached, the catheter is removed through the graft wall opening, and the wall opening is then closed.
摘要:
A diagnostic imaging agent is provided for use in conjunction with a magnetic resonance imaging system for the imaging of spacial oxygen distribution in tissue. The imaging agent is comprised of a complex of oxygen-17, a biologically acceptable liquid carrier, such as a perfluorinated compound, and an emulsifying agent, and wherein the agent has an average particle size of less than about 0.6 microns, and an ionic composition essentially equal to that of blood. Useful information can be obtained, and in certain instances, therapy administered, by a non-envasive imaging technique relative to tissue perfusion by .sup.19 F-NMR (imaging of .sup.19 F) and oxygen utilization by .sup.1 H-NMR (imaging of H.sub.2.sup.17 O as a metabolite).
