Abstract: An access point may handle an access terminal in different ways based on resource usage at the access point and/or based on at least one category associated with the access terminal. This handling of an access terminal by an access point may involve, for example, a reduction or an increase in service, access to specific resources, handout, and long term adjustments. If usage of one or more resources at the access point exceeds a corresponding usage threshold, the access point may reduce the service available to lower priority access terminals and/or increase the service available to higher priority access terminals. In some aspects, access terminals may be handled differently according to the serving access point's bandwidth, capacity, cost, or resource usage regarding backhaul, over-the-air, or other access point resources. In some aspects, access terminals may be handled differently according to a category (or categories) associated with the access terminals.
