Abstract: Some disclosed examples involve obtaining, via a sensor system of a wearable device, first heart rate waveforms at a first wearable device configuration corresponding with a first position at least a portion of the sensor system. Some examples involve prompting, via a user interface of the wearable device, a user to change the wearable device configuration to a second wearable device configuration, the second wearable device configuration corresponding with a second position of one or more sensors of the sensor system. Some examples involve obtaining second heart rate waveforms at the second wearable device configuration and determining, based at least in part on the first heart rate waveforms and the second heart rate waveforms, whether to change a wearable device configuration or maintain a current wearable device configuration. Some examples involve prompting the user either to change the wearable device configuration or maintain the current wearable device configuration.

Abstract: Sensors and systems for determining a physiological parameter such as blood pressure using external pressure are disclosed. Such sensors and/or systems may be embodied in a wearable user device. The wearable user device may include a cuff configured to apply a pressure to a portion of a user at one or more substantially constant pressure levels; a photoacoustic sensor configured to obtain photoacoustic signals generated from light incident on a blood vessel; and a wearable structure including the cuff and the photoacoustic sensor. Techniques involving the wearable user device may include: obtaining photoacoustic signals from a portion of the user; determining a curve associated with the user, the curve including a plurality of spatial measurements of the blood vessel as a function of a plurality of discrete pressures, the curve enabling determination of a characteristic of the blood vessel; and determining the physiological parameter based at least on the characteristic.

Abstract: Some disclosed examples involve directing two or more pulse groups of light towards a target object during a total light transmission time interval, each pulse group time interval within the total light transmission time interval being separated from a successive pulse group time interval by an off time interval. The target object may be part of a human body or an animal body. In some examples, no light is transmitted towards the target object during the off time interval. Some disclosed examples involve receiving acoustic signals corresponding to photoacoustic (PA) responses of a target object to the two or more pulse groups and determining one or more heart rate waveforms of the human or animal body based on the acoustic signals.

Abstract: In some implementations, an apparatus may obtain activity information indicative of an activity performed by a person. The apparatus may update a model for determining blood pressure of the person based at least in part on the obtained activity information. The apparatus may detect an acoustic wave corresponding to a photoacoustic response of a blood vessel of the person to light emitted by a light source system. The apparatus may estimate a blood pressure based at least in part on the updated model and the acoustic wave. In some embodiments, the apparatus may comprise a wearable device worn by the person.

Abstract: An apparatus and associated method may include a light source system that includes a light-emitting component, and a receiver system configured to detect an acoustic wave that corresponds to a photoacoustic response of a blood vessel to light emitted by the light source system. A control system may be configured to determine a wave characteristic from the acoustic wave and to estimate a tensive state classification based on the determined wave characteristic. The tensive state classification may be one of a plurality of tensive state classifications that each include different ranges of diastolic and systolic values.

Abstract: Some disclosed devices include a light source system, an ultrasonic receiver system and a control system. The control system may be configured to receive first sensor signals, including ultrasonic receiver signals, from the ultrasonic receiver system and to estimate one or more blood vessel features based on the first sensor signals. The control system may be configured to receive second sensor signals from a second sensor and to estimate a PWV based on the first sensor signals and the second sensor signals. The control system may be configured to estimate blood pressure based, at least in part, on the one or more blood vessel features and the PWV.
