摘要: A diffractometer of the type comprising a light source, an image transformation unit and an image reconstruction unit, in which the image transformation unit includes a condenser lens, is provided with an adjustable aperture stop in the focal plane of the condenser lens. A further adjustable aperture stop may be provided at the entrance pupil of a collimating lens of the image transformation unit. A television camera is positioned to receive light from the diffractometer and a further lens is used to adjust the focus to either the transform plane or the image plane of the instrument, adjustment of one or both of the stops adjusting the transform or the image quality.

摘要: A method of testing a curved surface of a body, which can be used on bodies having only partial arcs available for testing and apparatus for performing the method comprising drawing a sensor over the surface of the body between two end points at which the relative angular orientation of the sensor and the body are known, and calculating from the information signals from the sensor, and from signals representing the relative angular orientation of the body and the sensor during the traverse, the parameters of a best fit limacon from which data indicating the eccentricity between the centre of the partial arc on the body with respect to the centre of relative rotation can be obtained and also a signal can be generated representing a reference figure against which surface variations of the body over the partial arc can be compared.

摘要: This invention relates to an instrument for testing the surface profile of a workpiece for irregularities. A conventional stylus arrangement is used to derive signals representative of the irregularities of the workpiece profile relative to a convenient datum, and these signals are stored, for example on a film strip or a magnetic tape. Signals are then extracted from the store by operating on each successive value of the stored signal with a weighting function which is nominally symmetrical about an instantaneous midordinate. The resulting signal represents, for each successive part of the profile under test, the convolution of the respective part of the first signal with the said weighting function, and is arranged to represent a useful means line from which the surface irregularities indicated by the first signal may be assessed.

摘要: An instrument for testing the profile of a surface of an object having a non-circular, e.g. trochoidal, nominal shape, in which relative rotation is effected betweeen the object under test and the transducer, this relative rotation being compounded of two independent simultaneous rotations about parallel spaced apart axes so arranged that the transducer feeler traces a path which conforms to the nominal shape so that the transducer detects departures from the nominal shape. Automatic correction may be made for changes in the angle of the transducer feeler relative to the surface as the surface is scanned by the feeler.
