    Abstract: A composite storage tank system for gaseous hydrogen comprises a composite storage tank having composite wall enclosing a gas storage volume, the composite wall including a metal hydride element, or a metal element capable of forming a metal hydride in the presence of hydrogen, the system further comprising measuring apparatus arranged to measure an electrical characteristic of the metal hydride element or the metal element. The history of leakage of gaseous hydrogen from the tank, the current rate of leakage and the physical condition of the composite wall in the vicinity of the metal or metal hydride element may be inferred from a measurement of the electrical characteristic, without taking the tank out of service as is required in the case of known leaks tests such as a vacuum test, helium leak test or hydrogen sniffing test.

    Abstract: A battery charging system including a battery enclosure defining an interior space containing a battery storage medium, the interior space configured to house one or more battery cells; a charging terminal electrically coupled to the one or more battery cells and configured to receive electrical power from a power source to charge one or more battery cells; wherein the interior space is configured to be coupled to a pressurising device for applying pressure to the battery storage medium in the interior space; and wherein during charging of the one or more battery cells, the battery storage medium in the interior space is pressurised to cause an isostatic pressure to be applied to the one or more battery cells.     Abstract: An apparatus for metallurgical heat-treatment includes a solid-oxide electrolyser, a furnace and a heat-exchanger. The electrolyser is arranged to electrolyse water and provide resulting hydrogen to the furnace. A first portion of the hydrogen from the electrolyser is combusted in a combustor to heat the furnace. A second portion provides a treatment atmosphere including hydrogen for the heat-treatment of a metal or metal alloy object. Water vapour output by the combustor is provided to the heat-exchanger which transfers heat within the water vapour to the solid-oxide electrolyser to improve or maintain its efficiency. In contrast to apparatus of the prior art, the apparatus does not produce carbon dioxide at the point of use. By applying waste heat, carried by the water vapour output from the combustor, to the electrolyser, the power consumption of the electrolyser is reduced for a given rate of electrolysis.
