Abstract:
An antenna system has N antenna units stacked on a mast. Each unit has elements for responding to, e.g., GPS signals, and a phasing network that produces mutually orthogonal primary and auxiliary pattern modes at corresponding mode ports of the unit. A number of power dividers are each associated with a different mode, and each divider has N input ports coupled to the associated mode port of a corresponding antenna unit. The power divider associated with the primary pattern mode produces a reference beam and an auxiliary beam, and remaining power dividers produce different auxiliary beams. All beams have approximately both a common phase center and a common group delay center. An adaptive processor combines the reference and selected auxiliary beams to obtain a composite antenna reception pattern in which nulls are inserted at certain angles to suppress interfering signals, without degrading authentic signals arriving at other angles.

A tuning control system and associated method is provided for continuously and automatically tuning a lobed amplitude slope matching filter (ASMF) to a band center of an interfering signal to provide improved rejection of an interfering signal coupled from a transmission antenna into a local receive antenna in the presence of local multi-path, thereby Providing improved adaptive control loop performance. The tuning control system is provided as an element of an adaptive control loop.
Abstract:
A reduced-size GPS antenna with anti-jam capabilities includes eight inclined monopole elements making available a primary and seven auxiliary antenna patterns usable with multi-pattern adaptive processing for anti-jam operation. An excitation network coupled to the eight monopole elements can be configured to provide the eight antenna patterns having quadrature characteristics with low mutual coupling. Bent monopoles or other elements may also be utilized. With availability of the primary and auxiliary patterns, multi-pattern adaptive processing can be employed during airborne operations to actively provide reduced-gain pattern notches or nulls to track incident angles of interference or jamming signals. In other embodiments selected combinations of less than all of the eight antenna patterns or other patterns may be employed.
Abstract:
A cosite interference cancellation system is provided for improved rejection of a signal coupled from a transmission antenna into a local receive antenna in the presence of local multipath. The cosite interference cancellation system and associated method advantageously provide improved signal rejection by continuously controlling (adjusting) a matching time delay to reduce cosite interference.

A quadratic amplitude matching system and associated method with an associated tuning control system is provided for continuously and automatically tuning a quadratic amplitude matching filter (QAMF) to a band center of an interfering signal to provide improved rejection of an interfering signal coupled from a transmission antenna into a local receive antenna in the presence of local multi-path, thereby providing improved interference cancellation system performance. The matching control system is provided as an element of an interference cancellation system.

Abstract:
A system and method for communication that could be used in an identification friend or foe system. The method comprises generating a first message by a processor and controlling a beam steerer to deflect transmitted waves toward a first angle. The method further comprises transmitting the first message through an antenna in communication with the beam steerer toward the spatial angle. The method further comprises controlling the beam steerer to deflect waves received from the spatial angle. The method further comprises receiving a responsive wave at the antenna through the beam steerer at the spatial angle, the responsive wave including a second message responsive to the first message.
Abstract:
An adaptive antenna array control system and associated method is provided for continuously and automatically assigning resources to either protect against strong interferers or to shade a spatial region, reducing gain in that spatial region, to protect against potential low power interference, thus providing improved adaptive interference cancellation system performance with limited resources. The Array biasing system is provided as an element of an adaptive antenna array control loop.
Abstract:
An adaptive time delay control system is provided for matching the propagation time delay between two samples of a signal traveling through two independent paths so that they can be coherently combined for additional signal processing functions such as cosite interference cancellers, adaptive interference cancellers and adaptive beam formers. The adaptive time delay control system and associated method advantageously provide improved continuous matching of the two channels over a wider adjustment range while preserving both convergence speed over the full range and minimum jitter upon convergence by using composite autocorrelation functions to control (adjusting) a matching time delay in one channel.
