摘要:
A mirror and lens assembly which selectively places a mirror or other reflective surface into or out of the light path of an optical transducer in an optical data port to redirect incoming and/or outgoing optical signals and thereby permit data transfer from more than one general direction or position.

A scanner is disclosed. The scanner has a flatbed glass and an ADF glass mounted to a top cover with a gap formed between the two glass pieces. The scanner has a scanner module that has an ADF scan position underneath the ADF glass and a flatbed scan position underneath the flatbed glass. When the scanner module is in the flatbed scan position the scanner module references the flatbed glass. The scanner module crosses the gap between the two glass pieces when the scanner module moves from the flatbed scan position to the ADF scan position. The scanner module is lowered away from the flatbed glass as the scanner module approaches and moves across the gap between the two glass pieces.

An apparatus and method for calibrating a peripheral device having a scanner and document feeder is provided. A target page is printed having a target at a known location on the page. The target page is then fed into the document feeder for scanning by the scanner. A calibration value is determined by determining the lateral position of the scanned target within the scanner. The calibration value is then used to adjust the lateral position of a scan line window width of the scanner to scan substantially only the entire width of a document page to be scanned.

In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a transparent platen supported over an inside of a tub, an elongated member situated in the tub in a horizontal plane, a plurality of biasing members operatively connected to the elongated member, and a plurality of gap-maintaining members operable to connect to an image capture module and operatively connected to the platen. The elongated member is movable within a tub in a vertical plane, to movably support an image capture module in a horizontal plane. The biasing members are operable to urge the elongated member towards the platen. The gap-maintaining members are operable to maintain a constant distance between platen and an image capture module.

Representative embodiments provide for an automatic document feeder including a housing and a cover supported by the housing. The cover and the housing are configured to define a storage compartment, and the storage compartment is configured to removably store at least one scan window, wherein the at least one scan window is configured for use with the automatic document feeder. A method of using the present invention includes storing a replacement scan window within a storage compartment, removing an existing scan window from an operational location of an automatic document feeder, retrieving the replacement scan window from the storage compartment, and installing the replacement scan window in the operational location of the automatic document feeder.

A single plate flatbed scanner utilizing a single sensor to detect both opening of a lid covering the plate and the leading edge of an automatically fed document. The flatbed scanner includes a contact glass plate defining a flatbed scanning area where a document to be scanned may be manually positioned. An automatic document feeder (ADF) scan window where ADF-fed documents are scanned is defined within the flatbed scanning area. An image sensor is maintained at a fixed position in the ADF scan window while scanning ADF-fed documents. To scan a manually fed document, the image sensor moves under the flatbed scanning area so as to scan an image of the document. Since the ADF scan window and the flatbed scanning area both are defined in the same area of the contact glass plate, a document inadvertently left on the contact glass blocks the ADF scan window and prevents the scanning of an ADF fed document. A single sensor is utilized to detect the opening of the ADF which uncovers the contact glass to allow manual placement of a document. Detecting the opening of the glass plate cover is used to determine whether or not a document has been left on the glass plate after scanning. The same sensor is also utilized to detect the leading edge of an ADF fed document to initiate the scanning process at the precise time the document reaches the ADF scan window.

A laser printer provides a photoreceptor and a laser which produces an optical beam. A modulator is coupled to the laser and is responsive to binary data values to apply modulation signals to the laser to cause an image-wise modulation of the optical beam. Scan apparatus repetitively scans the optical beam across the photoreceptor to induce an image-wise charge state thereon. The scan apparatus causes, for one of the binary values, a variation in charge states corresponding to the one binary value across the photoreceptor. A function generator applies correction signals to the modulator to alter the optical beam in such a manner as to substantially prevent the variation of charge states. The function generator either causes a modulation of the voltage bias applied to the laser or modulates its pulse width output.
