摘要:
An ophthalmic lens includes spherical aberration in an amount that accounts for spherical aberration introduced into the lens during the manufacturing process and/or spherical aberration differences in the manufactured lens measured off of the eye and measured on the eye. The result is a lens-and-eye optical system is free or substantially free of spherical aberration, i.e., having only negligible spherical aberration. Because the optical system is free or substantially free of spherical aberration, there is no or only negligible coma induced by the normal misalignment of the lens optical axis and the eye's primary line of sight. The result is a lens-and-eye optical system that provides enhanced optical performance and visual quality. Also disclosed are methods of designing and manufacturing lenses with spherical aberration adjustments to account for manufacturing process changes and off-eye to on-eye differences.

A lens is provided that is capable of preventing or slowing the progression of myopia when worn by a person. The lens has a power profile that reduces on-axis and off-axis hyperopic defocus created by the optics of the eye by creating on-axis and off-axis myopic defocus. The on-axis and off-axis myopic defocus is created by providing light rays that pass through a central vision region of the optical portion and light rays that pass through a peripheral region of the optical portion an increase in positive (plus) power. The overall effect is to prevent or slow the progression of myopia without any perceptible degradation in the person's central vision.

Contact lenses, especially toric and bifocal, which are rotationally stabilized and methods of stabilizing contact lenses. Contact lenses are stabilized, with respect to rotation while in place on the eye, by providing the lenses with a non-circular shape. In a preferred embodiment, a toric contact lens is rotationally stabilized by providing the lens with an oval shape. Also disclosed are methods of providing non-circular lenses with appropriate shapes for proper fit to a patient's eye.
