    Abstract: A method for ascertaining fill levels of first and second exhaust gas catalytic converters in an exhaust gas system downstream from an internal combustion engine with respect to at least one exhaust gas component. The method includes detecting, using a sensor upstream from the first exhaust gas catalytic converter, at least one operating parameter of the exhaust gas system, ascertaining the fill level of the first exhaust gas catalytic converter based on the detected at least one operating parameter using a first calculation rule, ascertaining a total fill level of the first exhaust gas catalytic converter and second exhaust gas catalytic converter based on the ascertained at least one operating parameter using a second calculation rule, and ascertaining the fill level of the second exhaust gas catalytic converter as a difference between the total fill level and the fill level of the first exhaust gas catalytic converter.

In one example, a method includes determining a level of at least one exhaust gas component using a theoretical catalytic converter model in which at least one signal of a first exhaust gas sensor is input as a first signal, detecting a signal of a second exhaust gas sensor downstream of the exhaust gas catalytic converter as a second signal, determining a deviation of the second signal from a target signal, reinitializing the catalytic converter model if the deviation of the second signal from the target signal exceeds a predetermined threshold value, regulating the level by setting an air-fuel mixture supplied to the combustion engine according to a target level based on the determined level, determining a deviation between the first and the second signals, and correcting the first signal.

    Abstract: A method for controlling a filling of an exhaust-gas component storage-device of a catalytic-converter in the exhaust-gas of an internal-combustion-engine, in which an actual fill level (θmod) of the exhaust-gas component storage-device is ascertained using a first-system model to which signals (λin,meas) of a first-exhaust-gas probe that extends into the exhaust-gas flow upstream from the catalytic-converter and that acquires a concentration of the exhaust-gas component are supplied, if this first exhaust-gas probe is ready for operation. A lambda-target-value (λin,set) for a first control-loop is specified by a lambda-target-value pilot control, and that, if the first exhaust-gas probe is not ready for operation, a replacement signal for the signal of the first exhaust-gas probe is supplied to the system-model, and the replacement signal is used in the lambda-target-value pilot control as an initial-value for the lambda-target-value. Also described is a control device for the method.

The method provides that an adaptation requirement is learned as a function of the operating point, the learned adaptation requirement is stored as a function of the operating point, and a distinction is made based on the operating point dependency between different causes of the uncertainties.     Abstract: The invention relates to a method for controlling a filling level of an exhaust gas component accumulator of a catalytic converter (26) in the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine (10), in which an actual filling level (θmod) of the exhaust gas component accumulator is determined with a first catalytic converter model (100). The method is characterized in that a lambda setpoint (λin,set) is formed, wherein a predetermined target fill level (θset,flt) is converted into a base lambda setpoint by means of a second system model (104) which is the reverse of the first catalytic converter model (100), a deviation of the actual fill level (θmod) from the predetermined target fill level (θset,flt) is determined and processed to a lambda setpoint correction value by means of a fill level control unit (124), a sum of the base lambda setpoint value and the lambda setpoint value correction value is formed, and said sum is used to form a correction value, with which fuel metering to at least one combustion chamber (20) of the internal combustion engine (10) is influenced.
