摘要: A vacuum platen and method for use thereof in a printing device are disclosed. An apparatus embodiment includes a first surface having a plurality of first apertures therethrough, a labyrinth configured to include a plurality of passageways each of which is fluidly coupled to at least one of the first apertures, and a second surface having a plurality of second apertures therethrough each of which is fluidly coupled to the vacuum source and at least one of the passageways thereby establishing an airflow from the first apertures, through the passageways, and out the second apertures. The vacuum platen also includes at least one receptacle in each of the passageways, each receptacle configured to collect debris from the airflow as it travels through the labyrinth. A method embodiment includes distributing a vacuum hold-down force over the printzone, conducting an airflow causing the vacuum hold-down force from the printzone to the vacuum source, and collecting debris from the airflow by changing a direction of travel of the airflow as it is conducted from the printzone to the vacuum source. Further characteristics and features of the apparatus and method are disclosed herein.

摘要: A printer with a media transport has a rigid, air-transmissive platen. A movable air-transmissive flexible web overlies the platen and moves along a feed axis. A suction device communicates with the platen to draw air through the web and through the platen so that a sheet of media carried on the web is biased toward the platen. A manifold underlies the platen and has a number of separate chambers open to the platen, so that the suction device is connected to each of the chambers. A controller operates to selectably prevent communication between the suction device and at least some of the chambers.

摘要: An ink-jet apparatus employs a platen having an array of vacuum ports that are each filtered. The filter is constructed to provide restricted-airflow rates which remain uniform when the platen is either fully covered or partially uncovered. The filter mechanism provides both airflow restrictions such that ink drop flight trajectories in the printing zone are unaffected, acoustic dampening of the vacuum pump is provided, and vacuum pressure is kept relatively high proximate the print media edges.

摘要: In an inkjet printing apparatus an inkjet printhead ejects ink into a print-zone. A drive shaft, located upstream of the printhead, has a longitudinal axis, a first radius over a central length, and a second radius less than the first radius at a first recess and a second recess. Each recess is peripheral to the central length. A plurality of pinch devices stabilize the media against the drive shaft. A first guide and a second guide, spaced from the longitudinal axis, are aligned with and extend into the first recess and second recess.

摘要: An apparatus and method for delivery of sheet media to a printer includes a chassis, a drive motor, a media tray with elevatable pressure plate, a plurality of pick rollers situated opposite movable pinch rollers that come into contact with the pick rollers to form a roller assembly therebetween when in an extended position. A movable separator forms a throat between one of the pick rollers and the leading edge of the separator when it is in an extended position. A common transmission is used to simultaneously position the pinch rollers, separator, and the pressure plate. The apparatus also includes a media retarder for preventing multiple sheets of media from advancing through the apparatus at the same time. The method includes delaying the rotation of the pick rollers until a stack of media has been raised to press against the pick rollers, and the pinch rollers and separator are in an extended position. The pinch rollers and separator are retracted, and the transmission is disengaged from the pick rollers once the media sheet is delivered to a printer feed system.

摘要: A media feed apparatus for a printer, with a motorized media pick mechanism and a media support plate movable toward and away from the pick element, so that a stack of media on the plate may be brought into contact with the pick mechanism. A lifter assembly is continuously movable between a first position and a second position, and has a cam surface supportably contacting the media support plate. A first cam surface portion contacts the support plate when the lifter assembly is in the first position, and a second cam surface portion contacts the support plate when the lifter assembly is in the second position. The support plate may have a protrusion over which the cam surface slides, and the cam may pivoted to provide a selectable lever arm, depending on the point of contact.

摘要: Non-black ink jet printheads are arranged in a printer carriage such that the printhead nozzle arrays are non-overlapping in the carriage swath direction. A fixer printhead is positioned such that the print medium is first advanced past the fixer printhead prior to reaching any of the other printheads. The printheads are selectively driven during each direction of a bi-directional carriage movement, and the print medium is incrementally advanced before each change in carriage movement direction. The order of laying down droplets of different colors is the same during the movement in each direction, thereby eliminating bi-directional hue shifting print artifacts.
