At least one wheel set has at least three wheels for moving the instrument holder in the gap. Each of the wheels is rotatable about a respective one of approximately mutually parallel axes. A connection device is to be connected to leads for connecting the instrument holder to a control and evaluation device. At least one magnet presses the wheels of the instrument holder against the yoke in the gap. A method for inspecting the dynamo-electric machine includes introducing an instrument holder, carrying means for inspecting the machine, into the gap; and pressing the instrument holder against the yoke with at least one magnet.
