    摘要: An apparatus for the variable machining of workpieces is described which consists of a central module, which is constructed as a hollow carrier unit and which takes over the functions of the machine housing, and also of a plurality of horizontal and vertical modules which can be selectively connected with this central module and with one another via predetermined mechanical and electrical interfaces. The central module has an outwardly disposed and rotatably mounted carrier sleeve which can be axially displaced by a restricted amount, which can also be clamped, and which has mounts for tool support units, with the mounts extending over only part of the height of the carrier sleeve and being distributed around its periphery. The inner chamber of the central module is provided with fitted guide surfaces for a vertical module which is constructed as a columnar unit with a base end connection surface and with external guide surfaces complementary to the guide surfaces of the central module. The horizontal module consists of carriages which can be connected to one another and/or to the connection surfaces of the central module and columnar unit.

    摘要: A centering and chucking system for fixing an interchangeable element to a carrier body. The carrier body is provided with guide elements whose guide surfaces are arranged along a coordinate system through the center of which extends the reference axis, e.g. the axis of a spindle. Due to the arrangement of two centering means along one axis of the coordinate system and of at least another centering means along the other axis, the reference axes of both parts are not displaced relative to each other by changes of temperature. Although the centering means are provided outside the reference axis, the system in said reference axis is determined by them.

    摘要: The machine tool comprises a vertical post (14) on which a head changer (19) is mounted for changing the tool head (17) provided at a head carrier (16). The head changer (19) is rotatable about a vertical axis. It carries at least one head gripper (22) which is adapted to grip from the top the tool head (17) and to rotate it from a front working position to a rear changing position. The post (14) being nonrotational (about any axis) and preferably unadjustable in height (the Y axis), is simple and low cost. The machine tool is readily adaptable to sophisticated design modifications, particularly including tool exchange in plural multi-tool tool heads and interchange with tool and/or tool head storage magazines.

    摘要: The specification is directed to a method of operating a machine tool which enables a machining center, a transfer line or a flexible manufacturing system to be rapidly converted from the manufacture of one work piece to the manufacture of another workpiece. This is achieved by mounting all the tools associated with one series of machining steps on a common carrier unit and adapting the carrier unit so that it can be placed quickly in position on the machine tool and automatically centered in a variety of positions so that each of the individual tools can be brought into a desired machining relationship with the workpiece. The tools can comprise both stationary and driven tools and the machine tool is adapted to allow relative movement between the workpiece and the individual tools so as to carry out the desired machining steps. The tools can be preadjusted in their mounts before the carrier unit is placed on the machine tool and are to be stored already mounted on the carrier units to avoid tool losses when not in use. During machinery the tools preferably remain in the mounts but in one embodiment tools can be withdrawn from the mounts and transferred to a machining head. The carrier units are preferably of bell-like form and located on machine tools by means of a pair of mating Hirth rings.

    摘要: The fixture block is adapted to be combined with further correspondingly designed accessories with the aid of which workpieces to be machined can be brought into proper position or orientation for the particular machining operation, such as planing, milling, drilling and the like, and maintained in such proper position or orientation during at least one working cycle. The fixture block has horizontal and vertical contact surfaces designed as aligned rows of coplanar projecting areas separated by machined rows of coplanar recessed areas. The block is an L-shape body having a vertical leg and a horizontal leg, with the length and width of each leg being equal to each other and to the length and width, respectively, of the other leg, and with the thickness of each leg being equal to one-half its length or width. All surfaces of the block are formed with a plurality of tapped bores, and with smooth untapped bores of different diameters which at least partly intersect each other within the block. The intersecting bores preferably are through bores, and at least one through bore extends, perpendicularly to the outer surface of each leg, from one of the projecting areas. The tapped holes serve for mounting of the correspondingly designed manufacturing accessories which complement the fixture block, and the through bores serve to receive auxiliary means for effecting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and/or electromagnetic clamping of workpieces to be machined.
