摘要: The present invention provides a process for the management of H2S containing gas streams and high alkalinity water streams in which process the H2S is selectively removed from the gas stream and combusted to form an SO2 rich waste gas stream. The SO2 gas stream is then scrubbed with the water stream to substantially remove the SO2 from the gas while subsequent treatment of the water such as softening or settling is improved.

摘要: A method for lowering the viscosity and specific gravity of a heavy hydrocarbon to render it pipelineable is disclosed. The method comprises adding a vanadium and nickel containing coke fly ash to the heavy hydrocarbon; reacting the heavy hydrocarbon in the presence of the fly ash with a molecular hydrogen containing gas under hydroconversion conditions for a time sufficient to lower the viscosity of the hydrocarbon in the range of about 20 to 60 centipoise at 40.degree. C. and to lower the specific gravity in the range of from about 0.925 to about 0.940 at 15.degree. C., whereby the heavy hydrocarbon is rendered pipelineable.

摘要: Sulfur-containing petroleum feeds are desulfurized by contacting the feeds with staged addition of sodium metal at temperatures of at least about 250° C. in the presence of excess hydrogen to sodium metal. The formation of Na2S is substantially suppressed and the formation of NaSH is promoted in the desulfurization process.

摘要: A process for devulcanizing and functionalizing a rubber vulcanizate by desulfurization involves suspending a rubber vulcanizate crumb in a solvent which preferably swells the rubber vulcanizate before or during the devulcanization reaction and adding an alkali metal, such as sodium, to the suspension. The alkali metal cleaves mono-, di- and polysulfidic cross-linkages in the rubber vulcanizate to liberate rubber polymer having a molecular weight substantially equal to that of the rubber polymer prior to vulcanization. Functional groups derived from the solvent molecules bond to the devulcanized rubber's polymeric backbone. In addition to the functionalized devulcanized rubber polymer, carbon black may also be recovered for re-use in accordance with the process of the present invention. The functionalized devulcanized rubber may be subjected to a re-vulcanization reaction without separation of rubber polymer from the solvent by addition of an appropriate curing mixture.
