The weight ratio of thecomponent (A) to the component (B) is 100:0.1 to 100:50. The pigment composition can be produced by wet-grinding (A-1) &agr;-copper phthalocyanine and the component (B) at a weight ratio of from 100:0.1 to 100:50 in a non-aromatic solvent. A colorant comprises the pigment composition and at least one component selected from the group consisting of film-forming resins and liquid media. A composite pigment of a bluish green color comprises copper phthalocyanine and aluminum phthalocyanine which are preferably in the form of a mixture or solid solution. The composite pigment can be produced by mixing copper phthalocyanine and aluminum phthalocyanine into a mixture and then converting said mixture into a pigment form. A coloring composition comprises at least a resin and a pigment which comprises copper phthalocyanine and aluminum phthalocyanine. The coloring composition can be produced by mixing copper phthalocyanine and aluminum phthalocyanine which have been independently comminuted, into a composite pigment, and then kneading the pigment and a resin such that the pigment is dispersed in the resin. An image recording substance is produced using the coloring composition. The image recording substance can be a dry developer of a fine powder form or a wet developer of a liquid form, an ink-jet ink, or a thermal transfer ink ribbon with the coloring composition coated on a film-shaped or sheet-shaped base material.

There are herein disclosed calcined pencil leads which have a high strength, excellent light resistance and weathering resistance as well as a sharp color and which can easily be erased by an eraser, and a method of manufacturing the calcined pencil leads.In the calcined pencil leads containing, as at least a colorant, a pigment obtained by forming the pigment in the open cells of the pencil leads, the pigment can be obtained by any of(1) a process of impregnating the open cells with a solution containing the dissolved organic pigment, and then solidifying the pigment,(2) a process of impregnating the open cells with a solution containing a pigment precursor, and then reacting it, and(3) a process of impregnating the open cells with a dye solution, and then forming a lake.

A baked color pencil lead which can draw lines showing a vivid color and having excellent light fastness while holding excellent physical strength, and which is manufactured by a method comprising the steps of:kneading a blend composition comprising at least a filler and an organic forming binder, molding the composition by extrusion, and baking the molded composition in a non-oxidizing atmosphere, to thereby form a first baked lead containing a binder of a carbon produced by carbonizing the above organic forming binder,heating the first baked lead in an oxidizing atmosphere to remove the binder of the carbon by oxidation, to thereby form a second baked lead,impregnating the pores of the second baked lead with a perhydropolysilazane-containing solution and then subjecting it to a heat treatment in an inert atmosphere such as a nitrogen atmosphere or in an ammonia atmosphere, to thereby form a third baked lead containing silicon nitride produced by the heat treatment, andimpregnating the pores of the third baked lead with an organic pigment solution and solidifying the organic pigment in the pores to allow at least the organic pigment to be contained in the baked lead as a colorant.
