Abstract: A lock nut for a screw seated in a deep, narrow recess has an axially elongated plastic body formed at one end for torque applying engagement by a noncircular driving tool. Opening to its other end is a coaxial hole that is deep enough to receive the entire screw shank. A tapped metal insert is secured in the hole at its outer end. Inwardly of the insert the hole has a portion of smaller transverse dimension than the screw diameter to provide internal surface portions that snugly engage the crests of the screw threads.
