Abstract: A method of recovering 2-ethyl hexanol (2-EH) from crude alcohol that includes the 2-ethyl hexanol, 2-ethyl, 3-propyl acrolein (EPA), and 2-ethylhexanal (EHA) is disclosed. The crude alcohol stream is first separated into a first stream of primarily 2-EH, a second stream of primarily EPA and 2-EH collectively, and a third stream of primarily 2-EH and EHA collectively. The second stream and the third stream are combined to form a combined stream. The combined stream is processed further to form a first product stream comprising primarily 2-EH and a second product stream comprising primarily, 2-EH, EHA, and EPA collectively.

Abstract: A process of recovering propylene and N-butyraldehyde from a purge gas includes forming a first product stream including N-butyraldehyde by reacting propylene and a first synthesis gas in the presence of a first catalyst in a first reactor and a second reactor; withdrawing a mixed stream from the second reactor; separating a liquid stream and purge gas from the mixed stream and recycling the liquid stream to the second reactor; reacting the purge gas and a second synthesis gas in the presence of a second catalyst in a purge gas reactor to form a second product stream including N-butyraldehyde; withdrawing the second product stream including N-butyraldehyde from the purge gas reactor and combining the second product stream including N-butyraldehyde and the first product stream including N-butyraldehyde; and withdrawing a stream including N-butyraldehyde from the purge gas reactor and recovering N-butyraldehyde from the stream including N-butyraldehyde product stream.

Abstract: A method of separating linear alpha olefins includes: passing a feed stream comprising linear alpha olefins through a first column; distributing a C8− fraction to a top portion of the first column; distributing a C9+ fraction to a bottom portion of the first column; passing the C8− fraction directly to a top portion of a second column; passing the C9+ fraction directly to a bottom portion of a second column; distributing a C11+ fraction to the bottom portion of the second column; withdrawing a C10 fraction as a side draw from the second column; and passing a liquid stream and a vapor stream from the second column to the first column.

Abstract: Systems and methods of recovering 2-ethyl hexanol from crude alcohol are disclosed. The crude alcohol originates from a reactor that produces 2-ethyl hexanol and is first distilled in a first distillation column The distillate from the first distillation column is then further distilled in a second distillation column. A side stream is drawn from the second distillation column and recycled to the reactor that produces 2-ethyl hexanol. The bottom stream from the second distillation column is mixed with the bottom stream from the first distillation column. The combined stream is further distilled in a third distillation column to produce a 2-ethyl hexanol product stream.

Abstract: The invention provides a system for removing an acid gas from syngas with enhanced heat recovery, the system including an acid gas absorber containing a solvent and having an inlet positioned to receive a syngas stream, the acid gas absorber producing an acid gas enriched solvent effluent; a first heat exchanger positioned to exchange heat between the syngas stream upstream of the acid gas absorber and the acid gas enriched solvent effluent; and an acid gas stripper positioned to receive the acid gas enriched solvent effluent from the first heat exchanger, the acid gas stripper producing a lean solvent effluent having reduced acid gas content. The invention also provides a method for removing an acid gas from syngas with enhanced heat recovery, which involves heating an acid gas enriched solvent effluent through heat exchange with a syngas stream upstream of an acid gas absorber.
