摘要:
A toner reproduction curve (TRC) control method is provided. The TRC method for controlling a printer including a color toner density (CTD) sensor includes the steps of (a) measuring a development potential VB, a charging potential VO, an exposure potential VR, and a development current Id and evaluating a development vector VD, which is the difference between the development potential VB and the exposure potential VR, and a backplating vector VBP, which is the difference between the charging potential VO and the exposure potential VR; (b) forming a TRC space using TRC data detected from the CTD sensor; (c) obtaining a TRC characteristic function from the TRC data, the development vector VDnullx, the backplating vector VBPnully, and the development current Idnullz; (d) forming an RTRC by setting TRC data, whose covariance is smaller than a threshold value among the detected TRC data, as RTRC data; and (e) measuring TRC data, comparing the measured TRC data with the RTRC data to calculate control parameter values, and controlling the printer using the control parameter values. The TRC method does not require other sensors but the CTD sensor. By using internal parameters covering environmental changes, the charging potential of a photosensitive body, a state of a developer, and the efficiency of a charger can be estimated, thereby realizing efficient TRC control.

A method of controlling a charging potential of an organic photoconductive cell (OPC) includes a first operation of applying two charging voltages Vc1 and Vc2 having respective duties D1 and D2 established in an engine controller unit (ECU) to a conductive roller via a high voltage power supply (HVPS) to charge the OPC, a second operation of measuring sensing voltages Vs1 and Vs2 through a sensing resistor Rs coupled to the conductive roller so that the ECU establishes a target charging current It and calculates a new charging voltage Vc3 and a new duty D3, a third operation of applying the new charging voltage Vc3 and the new duty D3 to the conductive roller via the HVPS to charge the OPC and measuring a charging current Ic3 of the conductive roller, and a fourth operation of comparing a difference between the charging current Ic3 of the conductive roller and the target charging current It with a tolerance value TOL to control the charging potential by using the target charging current when the difference is smaller than the tolerance value TOL. The method maintains the charging potential by compensating for a residual potential of the OPC, thus improving a performance of a printer.

A method of compensating for image quality controls a tone reproduction curve (TRC). The toner reproduction curve TRC null(k) measured by a color toner density sensor is compared with a target TRC nullR to obtain a deviation nullnull. A variation nullVB of a developer bias VB is calculated from a Jacobian matrix (JB) of a measured developer bias VB to calculate a new developer bias VBN and determining a measured grid voltage VG as a new grid voltage VGN if the deviation (nullnull) is greater than a tolerance nullnullT. A backplating vector VBP is obtained from the grid voltage VGN and the developer bias VBN. The backplating vector VBP is compared with a critical value VT to set control parameters VGN and VBN and control the TRC null. Thus, noise effects on the image quality are minimized to provide an output image closest to an input image quality so as to improve the image quality.

A method of detecting toner depletion in an image forming apparatus. The method includes comparing an accumulation pixel number Qt that is obtained by accumulating and counting a number of pixels of a printed image, with a reference pixel number Qr, calculated from an amount of toner received in a developing unit, and recognizing that the image forming apparatus is in a toner low state if the accumulation pixel number Qt is larger than the reference pixel number Qr. The method further includes comparing a concentration Di of the printed image with a predetermined reference concentration Dr and detecting toner depletion in the case of the toner low state. The method further includes determining whether the developing unit is a new developing unit, if the developing unit is reinstalled in the toner depletion state.

A squeezing device of a wet printer for separating a liquid carrier element that is not used for forming an image from ink supplied to the photosensitive belt, includes a squeezing roller mounted to be opposite to the photosensitive belt, a bias applying unit for biasing the squeezing roller with a certain potential, and a plurality of backup rollers mounted side by side to be opposite to the squeezing roller across the photosensitive belt placed between the plurality of backup rollers and the squeezing roller, in order to extend a contact width between the photosensitive belt and the squeezing roller. A printer to which the squeezing device of a wet printer is applied secures a sufficient charging time of the photosensitive belt and lowers a voltage for generating a townsend discharge, to thereby enhance charging performances and printing qualities.
