Abstract: A display unit of the present invention includes a display section (10) that outputs a first linearly-polarized light as image light, and a display switching section (20) that performs switching between an image display mode and an external light reflection mode. The display section (10) includes a first absorption-type polarization member (11) that allows the first linearly-polarized light to pass through and absorbs second linearly-polarized light. The display switching section (20) includes a reflection-type polarization member (21), a switchable transmission polarization axis member (22), and a second absorption-type polarization member (23). The reflection-type polarization member (21) allows the first linearly-polarized light to pass through and reflects the second linearly-polarized light. The switchable transmission polarization axis member (22) performs switching between a first mode in which the first linearly-polarized light is converted into the second linearly-polarized light and a second mode in which the first linearly-polarized light is not converted into the second linearly-polarized light. The second absorption-type polarization member (23) allows the first linearly-polarized light to pass through and absorbs the second linearly-polarized light. The second absorption-type polarization member (23) has a hue b* value that is equal to or smaller than a hue b* value of the first absorption-type polarization member (11).

A plate shaped unit formed in a transparent plate shape is provided at a portion located on the diffuser plate side in the support pin, the plural light sources and the support pin are arranged in line in a direction orthogonal to a direction in which the display and the diffuser plate are aligned, and the plate shaped unit is caused to face the light source in the shortest distance.

Abstract: A display device includes a display with a display surface on which to display images, optical sources acting as a backlight to output light to the display, a diffuser panel disposed so as to face the optical sources, diffusing the light output from the optical sources, and a support pin disposed on the side opposite to the display across the diffuser panel. The support pin is contactable with the diffuser panel, maintains the position of the diffuser panel, and has a wide-width surface and a narrow-width surface that differ in width in two directions perpendicular to an alignment direction in which the display and the diffuser panel are aligned. The optical sources and the support pin are disposed alongside in a direction perpendicular to the alignment direction, and the narrow-width surface of the support pin faces the optical source at the shortest distance.
