Abstract: An improved uncoupling rod assembly for uncoupling the couplers of a railway car, said assembly including a first rod section and a second rod section which are connected so as to be capable of transmitting turning torque for operating the coupler unlocking mechanism. The connection is flexible, resilient, and normally stiff to hold the rod sections in axial alignment but resiliently flexible upon impacts non-axially applied on the assembly so as to cause binding thereof. The assembly returns to its normal operating position when the force of the impact is removed.
