Abstract: An electrode assembly for accelerating charge carriers in a charge carrier beam includes acceleration electrodes fixedly mounted inside an evacuable chamber formed by an insulating body and a surrounding enclosure. A supplementary conductor element is embedded within the walls of the insulating body, in a fashion in which it substantially encircles, or circumscribes, both the acceleration path and also at least in part the acceleration electrodes. The supplementary conductor is conductively connected to one of the electrodes which it circumscribes, thus maintaining electrode and supplementary conductor at the same electric potential.
