Abstract: Sulphite waste liquor is concentrated in a plural effect evaporator; the so-removed vent steam containing SO2 is cooled at low pressure and the condensate discharged; and the resulting gas rich in SO2 is compressed to atmospheric pressure in a vacuum pump requiring little or no sealing water.
