Path switching control for dynamically switching the path to be used by the host system according to the loaded condition of the respective paths between the host system and the storage apparatus is executed; and a path is selected as needed according to a policy containing path switching rules created by a user, and path switching control for excluding the selected path from the target and dynamically switching the path to be used by the host system is executed.

    摘要: A storage controller that performs user-friendly information display, simplifies updating of support information, has external storage controllers to provide sufficient input/output performance, and expands the range of external storage controllers to be supported; and a controlling method for that storage controller. The storage controller includes a code extract/convert unit for converting a first code indicating a vendor name and/or device name of an external storage controller, obtained based on inquiry data transmitted from the external storage controller, into a second code indicating a real vendor name and/or real device name of the external storage controller. The storage controller creates support information that compiles information of each model regarding whether or not it can be connected to the respective external storage controllers. Furthermore, a path control system and a timeout time can be set for the respective external storage controllers.

    摘要: The present invention makes it possible to change over a volume transparently with respect to a host. A first storage device 2A and a second storage device 2B are connected through a communication network 3B; a volume 8 provided by the second storage device 2B is mapped as a volume of the first storage device 2A. A host 1 is capable of accessing either of the volume 6 or volume 8 via a virtual LU 4. A connection control unit 5, which may be constructed of tables or the like, connects the virtual LU 4 to either one of volume 6 and volume 8. Changeover of the connection target is performed transparently with respect to the host 1 and so is not recognized by the host 1. Consequently, the actual data storage target volume can be changed over while the host 1 always accesses the same virtual LU 4.

An actual device of the second storage controller is mapped to a virtual device of the first storage controller. The first storage controller has a port for transmitting control cylinder information to be written in a control information area of the actual device. As the format data to be transmitted from the first storage controller to the second storage controller, it will suffice so as long as control cylinder information is transmitted, and high speed formatting can be performed since it is not necessary to transmit 0 data.

A logical volume, which is not correspondent to a virtual logical volume, can be specified when defining a virtual logical volume correspondent to a logical volume. A first storage controller comprises a port capable of connecting to both a logical volume of the first storage controller, and a logical volume of a second storage controller; a virtual logical volume, which is set in association with a logical volume connected to this port; and a virtual logical volume-setting controller for controlling the setting of a virtual logical volume. The virtual logical volume-setting controller is constituted such that the virtual logical volume cannot be set in a logical volume of the first storage controller.
