A light guide plate for a backlight. The light guide plate includes: a light source unit for generating light; a light guide plate proximate to the light source unit and including an upper surface and a lower surface; and a light emission pattern configured to diffuse a portion of the light directed toward an image display panel, and a first straight pattern configured to channel the light along a direction substantially parallel to a direction of propagation of the light generated by the light source unit, both the light emission pattern and the first straight pattern being disposed on one of the upper surface and the lower surface of the light guide plate, in which the first straight pattern has peaks and valleys formed in alternating and repeating manner in a direction substantially perpendicular to a direction of propagation of the light generated by the light source unit.

A backlight unit includes a light source part configured to emit a light and a reflective sheet disposed under the light source part. The light source part includes a first light source block including a plurality of light sources with first distances therebetween and a second light source block including a plurality of light sources with second distances therebetween. The first distances increase or decrease as the light sources of the first light source block are closer to an end portion of the first light source block than to a center portion of the first light source block, and the second distances increase as the light sources of the second light source block axe closer to an end portion of the second light source block than to a center portion of the second light source block.

A display device includes a light guide plate which includes a light incident surface, a light exiting surface connected to the light incident surface, and an opposite surface facing the light exiting surface, a light source which faces the light incident surface and is configured to emit a light, a reflective sheet which faces the opposite surface and reflects the light, a first pattern which is unitary with the light guide plate and protruded from the opposite surface, a pressure sensitive adhesive which is on an upper surface of the reflective sheet and contacts the first pattern, and a display panel which is configured to receive the light exiting through the light exiting surface and display an image.

A backlight unit includes a light source which emits a first light, a light guide bar extending in a first direction, where the light guide bar receives the first light through an incident surface thereof, and guides the first light to convert the first light to a second light, and a control pattern disposed on a surface of the light guide bar, which extends in the first direction, where the control pattern converts the second light to a third light, and has a shape extending in the first direction to control an exit angle of the third light.
