Abstract: A data storage device can employ a gimbal tongue flexure suspended from a load beam with a transducing head mounted to the gimbal tongue flexure. The transducing head can be separated from a magnetic recording medium by an air bearing. At least one active or non-active damper may be positioned on a strut of the gimbal tongue flexure.

Abstract: A magnetic recording head includes an active component and a piezoelectric actuator. The active component is disposed proximal to a media-facing surface of the magnetic recording head. The piezoelectric actuator includes a piezoelectric layer, a first electrode coupled to the piezoelectric layer, and a second electrode coupled to the piezoelectric layer. The piezoelectric actuator is configured to exert a mechanical force to displace the active component such that the displacement changes a protrusion of the active component from the media-facing surface.
