The optical disc comprises a substrate layer and a data layer disposed on the substrate layer, the data layer having a mark/space data structure arranged in tracks which are arranged in groups being separated each by a land section. The tracks of the groups are each arranged as a spiral, and the start of a track of a consecutive group begins at a position corresponding with the end of a track of a preceding group. A group comprises advantageously an inner track, a center track and an outer track. The optical disc comprises in a preferred embodiment a nonlinear layer with a super-resolution structure and the track pitch between neighboring tracks within a group is below the diffraction limit of a corresponding pickup for reading of data. Further, a tracking method is described which does not rely on tracking offsets to detect the inner and outer tracks of a group.

The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for a digital servo system with pre-processing old control states to shorten processing delay, which improves the stability of the control loop and/or allow a fast servo signal processing, which improve the overall servo control performance. The digital signal processor of the servo system stores previously calculated control filter states for a calculation of a digital signal processor output value from a current input value and provides the digital signal processor output value before calculating control filter states based on said current input value. The invention is e.g. applicable for a fast digital servo system in an optical disc drive.

A format of a recordable optical recording medium is described. The recordable optical recording medium is designed in such a way that it has the appearance of a read-only optical recording medium for most players and recorders. Also described are a method for manufacturing the recordable optical recording medium and a method for writing to the optical recording medium. The optical recording medium has a recording area and a guide structure for tracking. The guide structure does only extend over one or a few track spirals or concentric tracks outside the recording area. For writing to this optical recording medium a further light beam falling onto the guide structure or already recorded data is used for generating a tracking error signal for a main light beam.

The track jumping of a scanner on optical storage media in which information items are stored on groove and land tracks or which have not yet been written to is intended to be made possible in a reliable manner. For this purpose, firstly a fictitious track type is defined for a regulating circuit, which regulates the position of the scanner. The regulating circuit is then closed on the basis of the track type defined and a track scanning signal. The reaction of the scanner to the closing is detected in order to obtain from this an item of information about the track type. This method is also advantageous, in principle, for closing the track following regulation in information carriers having relatively high storage densities.
