摘要： A surgical retractor comprising a base adapted to lie on the patient's skin, a handle slidably mounted with respect to the base, a tissue retracting blade extending from the handle, and a locking member movable from at least a first position to a second position to retain the tissue retracting blade in a selected position. A method for accessing the saphenous vein to facilitate harvesting the vein is also disclosed comprising the steps of making a small incision in the leg of a patient, positioning a retractor on a patient's leg such that a retractor blade extends into the incision and a base lies on the surface of the patient's leg and pulling the retractor blade away from the patient to lift the tissue away from the underlying saphenous vein.

摘要： A loading unit is provided for use with a surgical vascular suturing instrument. The loading unit is dimensioned and configured to securely retain a surgical needle and an associated length of suture in a position to be received by a jaw of the vascular suturing instrument. The loading unit generally includes one or more needle supply stations each of which include needle support structure and jaw receiving structure. The needle supporting structure releasably secures a surgical needle to the loading unit and the jaw receiving structure is dimensioned and configured to guide the jaw of a vascular suturing instrument about an end of the surgical needle. The needle supply station also includes a shield to protect the pointed end of the surgical needle during storage and transportation. The loading unit also includes suture retaining structure for holding the length of suture material attached to the surgical needle.

摘要： A surgical fastening instrument including a handle portion, an elongated portion, an end effector and a clamp is disclosed. The elongated portion extends distally from the handle portion. The end effector includes a pair of jaws having a tissue contacting surface disposed substantially transverse to the longitudinal axis of the elongated portion. The end effector is disposed adjacent a distal end of the elongated portion, and at least one of the jaw members is movable with respect to the other between an open position and an approximated position for engaging body tissue therebetween. The clamp has a clamping surface extending substantially transversely from an elongated member and has a height exceeding a height of the elongated member to extend adjacent a side surface of the jaw containing the plurality of fasteners. The clamp is movable from a proximal position to a distal position for engaging body tissue.
