摘要: A movable support arm positions a surface platform for a keyboard, display monitor, pointing device, wrist support or the like relative to a base structure such as the underside of a desk top. Articulated members between a base member and the platform are coupled by joints having rotational couplings on two mutually perpendicular axes, forming universal joints. The joints have axially facing rotational engagement surfaces that can be splined or otherwise made engageable, and are displaceable toward and away from one another, the latter preferably by a spring coupling that is axially limited in extension. The rotational engagement surfaces resist rotation when engaged. A line such as a cable traverses the joints and normally applies tension via a spring, causing all the joints to lock and to hold the supporting platform at a given position and orientation. A manually operable control is provided to extend the length of the line and disengage all the joints simultaneously, whereupon the support platform can be moved freely to a new position anywhere in a three dimensional range, as well as tilted, etc. The control is released at the new position to again hold the platform in place.

摘要: Toy racing vehicles for operating on preexisting track of a particular scale comprise sub bodies including conventional chassis and larger-scale “visible cars”, which are supported by the sub bodies, but are not fixed or mounted thereto. Instead, a visible car simply rests on the sub body, and is retained loosely thereon by one or more guide pins mounted on the sub body, and fitting loosely within apertures in a plate fixed with respect to the visible car. Accordingly, when the larger-scale visible cars bump one another during racing, they can be jostled out of their normal positions on their sub bodies, but are not separated therefrom, and return to their normal positions when the contact ceases. Realistic and exciting racing action results.

摘要: A vertically adjustable workstation comprises one or more legs having a vertical adjustment mechanism which provides an automatic self-braking function. The vertical adjustment mechanism comprises a highly efficient rotating member, such as a ball screw and ball nut assembly. Securely attached to the ball screw and the work surface is a clutch mechanism. The clutch mechanism has on one end a friction cap which is frictionally engaged with the work surface, and a thrust bearing which provides a first rotational interface between the ball screw and the clutch mechanism. The clutch mechanism comprises a roller clutch which allows for free rotation of the ball screw in the upward direction and is engaged with the ball screw when rotated in a downward direction. This arrangement comprises a load path which is directed from the work surface through the mating friction surfaces, the clutch mechanism and thrust bearing into the ball screw. The frictional rotational interface between the table and the friction cap of the clutch mechanism provides the self-braking feature such that backwinding of the table is prevented. A collapsible handle is operatively connected to the ball screw.

摘要: An improved load compensator for a spring counter-weighting mechanism including a snail cam to provide a constant counter-weight force is described. The cam provides a constant torque to a drum on which are wound cables for exerting a constant counter-weighting force. A manually operable device for altering the relative radial positions of the cam and drum varies the amount of the constant counter-weighting force. The cam is rotated with respect to the drum by a spur gear fitting within a ring gear fixed to the drum and rotated by a knob connected to an axle carrying a pinion gear engaging the spur gear.

摘要: An articulated support for a display including a base having a fore-to-aft slide assembly located proximate a rear portion of the base, a primary support for supporting the display, and having a pivot glide assembly depending from a rear portion of the primary support received within the fore-to-aft slide assembly for simultaneous translation and rotation therein, and a linkage assembly pivotally interconnecting the primary support to a forward portion of the base such that when the forward portion of the primary support is moved vertically, the primary support is simultaneously rotated and translated at a predetermined, synchronous rate with respect to the vertical translation of the forward portion of the primary support to automatically adjust the display as the user's viewing position changes vertically.

摘要: A tension control device is provided, for example, for locking and unlocking a movable support arm for a keyboard or the like, by engaging or disengaging rotational joints having axially displaceable rotationally lockable couplings traversed by a tension line. A control, preferably a caliper, has levers pivoted on a pin, normally biased by a spring to close. The spring pulls the caliper closed; however, the caliper is arranged by linkages to clamp tension onto the line rather than to couple spring tension to the line. A front linkage isolates the spring bias from the line when closed, by folding inwardly such that tension is transmitted substantially exclusively via compression of two pivoted members of the from linkage that align nearly parallel to the line. The biasing spring is coupled between a rear linkage that operates oppositely, and a fixed point such as the caliper pivot pin. The two linkages are such that the spring has maximum mechanical advantage to hold the caliper closed when in the closed position, tension nevertheless being rigid, clamped and not resilient, for rigidly locking the support arm.

摘要: A toy racing car or other vehicle for operating on conventional track of a given scale a comprises a sub body, including a chassis, motor and gear set, pickup shoes and drive wheels, and a visible body of much larger scale, with large scale rear drive wheels. In one embodiment, the body is pivoted to the sub body, so as to swing outwardly in turns, simulating a broadsliding race car; large scale front wheels are carried by the sub body, so as to simulate countersteering. A toy motorcycle similarly comprises a sub body and modeled motorcycle components; the front wheel and fork of the motorcycle remain upright in turns, while the rider and frame lean over, simulating a motorcycle leaning in a turn.
