摘要: An apparatus, system, and method are provided for gathering trace data indicative of resource activity on a computer system. The present invention includes a monitoring module that initiates one or more activity monitors on a target computer system to detect different types of resource activity. A determination module determines activity indicators involving resources of the target computer system using the one or more activity monitors. The activity indicators may comprise a variety of information useful in identifying one or more separate resource activities. A collection module organizes the activity indicators into trace data representative of the resource activity. Preferably, the monitoring module, determination module, and collection module operate continuously on the target computer system. In this manner, the trace data includes an accurate set of both current activity indicators as well as historical activity indicators.

摘要: An apparatus, system, and method are provided for associating resources using a time based algorithm. The apparatus comprises an initialization module, a query module, and a resource time module. The initialization module receives a seed identifier that identifies a seed resource. The seed resource may be a data file, an executable file, a directory, or another data structure associated with a logical application or business process. The query module accesses trace data and searches the trace data for a candidate resource that might be linked to the seed resource. The trace data describes a plurality of resource events that occur on a computer or network system. The resource time module selects a candidate resource based on a similar time attribute recorded in the trace data. The similar time attribute may refer to an access time of the candidate resource that is similar to, such as within a time range, an access time of a seed resource or otherwise linked resource. Based on the similar time attribute, the candidate resource may be associated or linked with the seed resource. Together the seed resource and one or more linked resources may form a resource group, which may be associated with a particular logical application or business process.

摘要: Transitioning a data file in an archive system from read-write to write-once-read-many (“WORM”) is triggered by a control file rather than using a timeout approach or a overload approach. A storage manager may receive a series of archive instructions to write a data file to an archive. During this time, the archive file may be in a read-write state. The storage manager may receive a control file, which may be structured, such as an XML file. Receipt of the control file signals to an storage manager archive system that the data file has been written to the archive and triggers the storage manager to make the data file immutable by switching it from read-write state to WORM state.

摘要: A method, system, and computer program product are provided for matching a storage dependent device to a storage subsystem. Storage requirements are identified for a storage dependent device that is coupled to a network. Additionally, a set of storage subsystems that are coupled to the network are identified. A determination is made as to whether at least one storage subsystem in the set of storage subsystems meets the storage requirements of the storage dependent device. An identified storage subsystem is formed by identifying the at least one storage subsystem that meets the storage requirements of the storage dependent device. Responsive to forming the identified storage subsystem, at least one storage subsystem is coupled to the storage dependent device, wherein the storage dependent device utilizes storage capabilities of the identified storage subsystem.

摘要: Mechanisms for enforcing change control in operations performed by operational management products (OMPs) are provided. The mechanisms automate the checking of a request-for-change (RFC) state by an OMP when the OMP is installed in an environment where a change management database (CMDB) has been installed and certain resources or operations have been placed under strict change control. The OMPs of the illustrative embodiments require an RFC identifier to be specified when a change operation of the OMP is invoked. The RFC identifier is used by the OMP to access a service management system so that the OMP may determine if the RFC identifier is valid, IT resources are in the correct state, and the change is scheduled to be performed at the current time. If these checks are passed, then the change operation associated with the RFC is permitted to occur.
