The litter comprises a litter frame and a patient support surface with articulating back and leg sections. The lift mechanism may comprise one or more actuators configured to raise and lower the litter between a lowered position and one or more defined raised positions. The Patient transport apparatus may further comprise a controller coupled to one or more sensors and the lift mechanism. The controller may be configured to define a transport height for the litter based, at least in part, on a characteristic detected by the one or more sensors, and to manipulate the lift mechanism to adjust the litter to the defined transport height.

Abstract: A patient support apparatus for supporting a patient includes a mattress with an inflatable mattress portion with a plurality of states. The apparatus further includes a control system to control inflation or deflation of the mattress portion to change its state between two or more of the states. The apparatus further includes a user interface in communication with the control system, which is configured to allow a user to select an inflate or deflate function of the mattress portion to change the state of the mattress portion. Further, the control system is operable to inflate or deflate the mattress portion in response to the signal being generated when a user selects an inflate or deflate function at the user interface. The control system is configured to generate a notification indicative of the selected state of the mattress portion to remind to a caregiver to change the selected state.

Abstract: A patient support apparatus for supporting a patient includes a mattress with an inflatable mattress portion with a plurality of states. The system includes first and second patient support apparatuses having a patient support surface supported by an adjustable frame. A controller is provided and is configured to communicate with at least one of the first and second patient support apparatuses. The controller includes programmable instructions to coordinate automated movements of at least one of the patient support apparatuses in order to couple the support apparatuses at a preferential transfer position, engage or monitor at least one safety feature, and provide an indication that it is safe to transfer the patient between the first and second patient support apparatuses.
