摘要： A retainer mount hole (10) is open in a connector housing (1) from its bottom surface over to its opposite side surfaces, and a retainer (35) is pushed obliquely from a partial locking position to a full locking position. On the other hand, each terminal fitting (25) is provided with a projection (28) and a stabilizer (29) at the side of the projection (28). When the retainer (35) reaches the full locking position, both the projection (28) and the stabilizer (29) are engaged with the retainer (35). The projecting end of the rear end of the stabilizer (29) is pointed, thereby forming a biting portion (56). When a wire (31) connected with the terminal fitting (25) is pulled backward, the biting portion (56) bites in the retainer (35) to prevent the retainer (35) from returning.

If the male terminal fitting (10) is inserted upside down, the elongated projections (50) contact a bottom wall (24B) at the entrance of a cavity (24) during the insertion to shift the male terminal fitting (10) transversely. Thus, the stabilizer (17) is caught deeply by a ceiling wall (24C) at the entrance. As a result, the male terminal fitting (10) is prevented from any further insertion.

The retainer (40) has a main body (41) with locking sections (45) engageable with the terminal fittings when the retainer (40) is at a full locking position in the housing (20). Side plates (42) are provided at opposite lateral sides of the main body (41) for covering stepped outer side surfaces (29) of the housing (20). A locking claw (53) is provided at an upper end (42a) of each side plate (42) for engaging a holding portion (33) on the stepped surface (29). The retainer (40) can be held at the full locking position by engagement of the locking claws (53) and the holding portions (33). The housing (20) has protecting portions (35) that cover the upper ends (42a) of the side plates (42) from outer sides when the retainer (40) is at the full locking position.
