Abstract: A shroud of a vacuum cleaner that includes a housing supporting an impeller configured for creating a working airflow path between a dirty air inlet and an exhaust outlet. The shroud includes a forward wall having a shroud inlet, an annular axial wall, and an opening formed in the annular wall. The shroud inlet is configured to be aligned with an inlet of the impeller inlet along an axial direction, and the annular axial wall extends away from an outer perimeter of the forward wall along the axial direction. The opening is configured to be arranged in line with a portion of the exhaust outlet along the radial direction. The annular axial wall and the opening define an overall circumferential perimeter of the shroud. The annular axial wall occupies more than half of the overall circumferential perimeter, and the opening occupies less than half of the overall circumferential perimeter.

Abstract: A portable vacuum device includes a vacuum housing including a motor housing, an inlet, a dust collection chamber, and a first airflow passage extending from the inlet to the dust collection chamber, a motor positioned within the motor chamber and configured to drive an impeller to generate an airflow, a hose defining a second airflow passage between a first end of the hose and a second end of the hose, the first end coupled to the inlet of the vacuum housing, and a handle coupled to the vacuum housing and rotatable relative to the vacuum housing about a rotational axis between a first position and a second position, wherein the handle defines a cradle configured to receive the hose. The hose rotates with the handle between the first position and the second position.

The microcontroller is further configured to determine an occurrence of a fault condition of the motor when the motor parameter satisfies a threshold. In response to determining the fault condition, the microcontroller is further configured to cause the motor to change from operation in the first direction to operate in a second direction, pause operation of the motor in the second direction, and resume operation of the motor in the first direction.
