Abstract:
PROCESS FOR OBTAINING IMPROVED REFRIGERATION RESULTS IN SULFURIC ACID ALKYLATION UTILIZING TWO ALKYLATION REACTOR: THE EMULSION OF ACID AND HYDROCARBON FROM ONE REACTOR IS FLASHED AND THE RESULTING MIXTURE IS SEPARATED INTO A COLD ACID PHASE AND A COLD HYDROCARBON PHASE. THE ACID PHASE IS USED TO COOL THIS REACTOR WHILE THE HYDROCARBON PAHSE IS COMBINED WITH THE REACTION MIXTURE FRM THE OTHER REACTOR TO PROVIDE TEMPERATURE REDUCTION. THE REACTION MIXTURE OF THIS REACTOR IS SEPARATED INTO ACID AND HYDROCARBON PHASES, THE ACID PHASE RETURNED TO SAID REACTOR AND PORTIONS OF THE HYDROCARBON PHASE IS PASSED THROUGH THE TUBE BUNDLES IN EACH REACTOR. PRESSURE REDUCTION PROVIDES EFFLUENT COOLING IN ONE OF THE REACTORS.
Abstract:
Improved process for the separation of straight chain hydrocarbons from petroleum fractions containing same admixed with nonstraight chain hydrocarbons by a molecular sieve selective adsorbent of Type 5A structure wherein a first desorbing medium of relatively low purity with respect to its straight chain hydrocarbon content is used as the first desorbing medium of the process to produce a final desorbing medium having a relatively high purity in straight chain hydrocarbon content while producing straight chain hydrocarbon products.

HYDROCARBON CONTENT OF SPENT SULFURIC ACID IS REDUCED BY HEATING WITH AGITATION AT A TEMPERATURE OF 260-275*F. IN ADMIXTURE WITH A HYDROCARBON WHICH IS NON-BOILING AT THIS TEMPERATURE. METHOD IS APPLICABLE TO A RESIDUE ACID OBTAINED BY ABSORBING PROPYLENE IN USED SULFURIC ACID ALKYLATION CATALYST TO FORM DISOPROPYL SULFATE AND EXTRACTING DIPROPYL SULFATE THEREFROM WITH ISOBUTANE. SULFUR DIOXIDE AND PROPYLENE ARE EVOLVED AS OFF GASES.

METHOD FOR REFRIGERATION OF A SULFURIC ACID ALKYLATION PROCESS OPERATED IN CONJUNCTION WITH AN ASSOCIATED ACID RECOVERY PROCESS INVOLVING REACTING USED ACID WITH OLEFIN FEED IN AN ABSORBER, EXTRACTING RESULTING DIALKYL SULFATES, ACID TREATING THE EXTRACT SOLUTION AND PASSING THE TREATED SOLUTION TO ALKYLATION. THE ACID TREATED EXTRACT SOLUTION IS VAPORIZED AND PASSED IN INDIRECT EXCHANGE WITH CONTENTS OF ABSORBER AND ALKYLATION REACTOR. VAPORIZED ISOBUTANE MAY BE SEPARATED, RECOMPRESSED, COOLED AND RETURNED AS A LIQUID FOR COMBINATION WITH THE ACID TREATED EXTRACT STREAM FOR ADDITIONAL COOLING CAPACITY.
