Abstract: There is disclosed a rotary type gas meter having a shaft, a primary section and a secondary rotor section proportional to each other in displacement, the rotors of each section being secured to said shaft, and a temperature controlled valve means which diverts the output of the secondary rotor section proportionally to either the outlet of the primary rotor section or back to the inlet of the secondary rotor section, the proportions being such that the total flow of metered gas issuing from said meter is adjusted to a base temperature in accordance with Charles law regardless of the temperature of the flowing gas.

Abstract: There is disclosed apparatus for reading a meter, located in a building or other enclosure out of sight from the exterior of the building, by bringing a portable unit, which may be carried by meter reading personnel, into proximity with a fixed unit which is accessible from the exterior of the building, the fixed unit being connected to and responsive to an encoder register mounted on the meter, the communication between the fixed unit and the portable unit being solely by radiant energy, the fixed unit and the portable unit each having radiant energy emitting means and radiant energy receiving means, radiant energy emissions from the fixed unit transmitting binary coded decimal signals to the receiving means in the portable unit, and the radiant energy emissions from the portable unit transmitting decimal order selection signals to the receiving means in the fixed unit.

Abstract: There is disclosed a method and apparatus for proving fluid meters, such as gas meters, having index means wherein a pair of cylindrical tanks each of which is half filled with proving oil has a connecting conduit between them near their bottom ends to achieve an initial common oil level, a float in one of said tanks being connected by a cable which passes over and operates an optical encoder indicates the rise and fall of the oil level in the tanks in terms of volume displaced. The cable passing over the encoder has a weight to counterbalance that of the float. One of the tanks is connected to the outlet opening of the meter to be tested while the inlet thereof is open to the atmosphere. The air in one of said tanks being removed by suction causes the test oil level to drop in the tank connected to the meter and thereby causes air to be drawn through the meter. When either the encoder or the index reaches a determinate reading, the operation is stopped and the encoder and index are compared to determine the proof of the meter.

Abstract: A die-cast meter top has integral hubs provided with external screw threads to receive a thin sleeve of hard metal, such as steel, which is provided with an internal screw thread fitting said external screw thread on the hub, the sleeve having an external screw thread to receive the internal screw thread on a coupling nut. The sleeve is plastic coated, preferably fluidized bed coated with epoxy, and there is a coating of epoxy resin between the hub and the sleeve to secure the sleeve to the hub against movement and electrically insulate the sleeve from the hub for protection against galvanic corrosion.
