摘要: A method of detecting neural activity in a nerve is disclosed. A first electrical signal is received from a first pair of electrodes. A second electrical signal is received from a second pair of electrodes, the second pair of electrodes being spaced from the first pair of electrodes along the nerve. A correlation analysis is applied between the first and second electrical signals, including for at least one non-zero lag time, to obtain correlation data. From the correlation data, at least one neural signal is detected, indicative of neural activity in the nerve. The neural signal corresponds to increased correlation between the first and second signals at the at least one non-zero lag time.

摘要: The present disclosure relates to a peripheral nerve electrode array that includes a first, second and third pair of electrodes spaced from each other along a longitudinal axis of the electrode array, the second pair of electrodes being located between the first and third pairs of electrodes. The present disclosure further relates to method for treating or preventing a chronic inflammatory condition in a human subject in need thereof, comprising providing to the human subject a therapeutically effective electrical stimulation of the anterior central abdominal vagus nerve or the posterior central abdominal vagus nerve, wherein the electrical stimulation is provided through two or more previously implanted electrodes at a site below the cardiac branches and above the hepatic-celiac branches of the nerve; and whereby the chronic inflammatory condition is prevented or treated in the human subject. In addition, the present disclosure relates to a method for treating or preventing a chronic inflammatory condition in a human subject in need thereof.

摘要: Methods and systems are disclosed for modulating glycaemia in a patient in which an activating stimulation signal is applied at an activating location at the vagus nerve, the activating stimulation signal configured to evoke a neural response in the vagus nerve; and a blocking stimulation signal is applied at a blocking location at the vagus nerve, the blocking stimulation signal configured to inhibit transmission of the evoked neural response along the vagus nerve past the blocking location; to produce unidirectional vagal nerve stimulation, the unidirectional vagal nerve stimulation being effective to modulate glycaemia in the patient.

摘要: Detecting of a disorder associated with impaired barrier function in the gastrointestinal tract of a subject is described, including through determining bioimpedance across a subject's gastrointestinal tract wall and detecting impaired barrier function based on bioimpedance. An electrical signal is measured between first and second electrodes, at least the first electrode being located in a gastrointestinal tract of the body and one or more characteristics are determined based on the measured electrical signal. The one or more characteristics can comprise hallmarks of impaired barrier function such as leakiness and/or permeability of the gastrointestinal tract and can provide an indication of inflammatory bowel disease and/or gut inflammation.
