Abstract: A biosensor detects bacteria in a sample and/or carries out antimicrobial susceptibility testing of the bacteria to an antibiotic. The biosensor includes a crosslinked hydrogel. The crosslinked hydrogel contains a composition suspended therein, including (i) a bacterial nutrient media; (ii) optionally, an antibiotic; and (iii) an indicator for determining bacterial growth.
