Abstract: Method of stripping accumulated titanium fines from the electrolyte of an electrolytic titanium cell consisting in adding chlorine gas to the electrolyte to react with the said titanium fines and produce titanium tetrachloride and removing the titanium tetrachloride with the off gases. Said method being carried out either in said cell wherein the chlorine gas is added adjacent to the cell bottom or in an auxiliary vessel. When said method is carried out in the auxiliary vessel, the titanium fines are mixed throughout the electrolyte in said cell and the mixture is pumped into the auxiliary vessel wherein the titanium is chlorinated from the electrolyte.
